Like DSM-Sonata said, regular maintainace is going to be your major contributor. Here's some of the things i do:
- Change the oil regularly. I do my own oil changes so I know what's going in my car. I us Castrol GTS 5W/30 oil mixed with about a half quart of Lucas Oil Extender. I use a Purilator ONE oil filter, and make sure the filter is changed everytime the oil is changed.
- I also just added a Fram Quikdrain Valve on my oil pan, has nothing to do with fuel economy, but it sure makes draining the oil quick a a lot less painless.
- If you're not going to switch out the intake system, at least put a K&N filter in your car. K&N's not only will save you on fuel, but they give a little extra hp, cause' your car can breath better. K&N's also last a long time. They run btween $40-50 on average, but if you clean the filter regularly, it will last you 3-5 years.
- Check the pressure in your tires once a week. Make sure your tires are filled according to the psi range on the sidewall of the tire. Rotate your tires regularly (I usually rotate mine when I change my oil) so they wear evenly and when the treads start wearring low, go ahead a get new tires.
That's all I have for now. If I think of anything else I do, I'll come back a post it.
