Default New head unit, volume too loud

I just bought a new 2003 Sonata GLS, and installed a JVC head unit. The volume is now WAY too loud. It' difficult to have a conversation when it is set at "1" and there is no sound at "0." Normal listening range is 3-6 (out of 50!)

I seem to be having the same problem discussed here:

but it doesn't seem his problem was ever fixed.

My head unit is a JVC KD-G430. I've tried using the setting on the unit to decrease the Gain, but it doesn't fix my problem.

Is there, in fact, an external amp somewhere in my sonata, and is there a way to turn it down?

Could be a number of things I don't think that car has a stock amp however it could and that could cause your problem. Are you sure you turned off all the settings like bass boost and stuff along those lines, did you hook it up correctly and what is the impedence of the speakers or are they stock?

Default Original speakers

They are stock speakers. I've scoured the manual of the head unit, turned off the bass boost, turned down the gain, but still it's way too loud at the lowest volume setting. This is the third JVC I've owned of similar design, and the others didn't do this.

From goolgling and and reading the specs it looks like your car does have a factory amp.

Welcome to Scosche Industries

I think this is the item I had to install on my G/F's altima because of the factory amps, It has individual gains per channel, so you could adjust those lower and then the volume on your radio should return to being "normal"

In order to fix that you're gonna have to buy a specific part that integrates the factory amp of the car. It should only run you about $50ish and will completely integrate the factory amp for the speakers. Alternately, depending on whether or not each speaker has it's own built-in amplifier or it's a separate full system amp, you could run speaker wire straight from the head unit to the speakers and bypass the amp altogether. The amplifier integration unit is going to take less time and give you better sound though, so that'd be the way I would go if I were you.

Default Here's a quick fix!!!

You can build your own fix on the cheap!!! It's really simple I had to do the same with my '99 Mustang when using an aftermarket deck. You can buy a prewired harness that is vehicle specific, (You may already have this.) If not, get one and get a short RCA cable. Cut the RCA cable at the mid-point, figure out what wire color goes to what speakers, connect the +/- leads from the RCA cables to the corresponding wires from the harness. Connect the RCA's to the deck and instead of running the high wattage speaker outputs from the deck into the factory amp, you will now be able to use the 4-6 volt output from the preamp outs that are run to the RCA outputs on the rear of the deck.

I hope this helps!!! I would put up a diagram of some sort but I am still computer illiterate!!
