Default AutoX Anyone?

My stats are up at www.wpg-autox.org Only 2k1 Tib in there lol. I had a slow start but stead progression throughout the year, we will see what the new year holds in store. I was running 225's on stock 15x6 RIM hehe, good straight line traction, kinda sloshly on the turns, it REALLY made the car 3-wheel. See the vid here:

http://www.mts.net/~diatechs/oct06-SteveP.WMV

I dont think I did too bad for my first year though, considering all the guys there had been doing it for umpteen years.

I would like to know if anyone else has any experience with suspension setups for autox, coilovers, drops, tires. I was racing with a stock suspension, and a crazy engine, so it was a bit uncontrollable when the cams hit at 5300 RPM around a chicago box

Looking forward to this year,

-Steve

Congrats, I was doing the same as you with my 91 Excel last year. But I didn't do a full season. I just got my 03 Elantra GT so I'm looking to compete with the higher end cars this year. My plans are to get front and rear Strut bars and a bigger rear sway bar. Then I think I'll good for the rest of the year...

Cool, how were you doing? I wish more guys were into it here in Winnipeg, now when I go to events I have to pretend that I REALLY am interested in another Ford Mustang trying to AutoX, lol. I am wondering it I go again this year, what kind of difference a new suspension, KYB KONI etc will make.

Bro you're gonna need:

-Stiffer rate dampers and springs
-Stiffer rate bars[roll] as well as the solid bushings for the best effect, the rear bar stiffer than the front
-Adjustible pillow ball assemblies.

The car is not recovering or settling quickly enough for the next turn and this is translating into some VERY severe transitional roll.:dead: Time killer.

Good luck for the next year man!

I would suggest a nice set of Koni Yellows with custom rate Ground Controls. Can't go wrong with that setup, and if you need something really stiff (500 pounds +), you can have your Konis revalved for higher rates at various locations.

If you can, pick up a set of Neuspeed Koni Yellows. They're slightly shortened Konis which will provide more shock travel on a lowered car. I'm not sure if they make them for Hyundai...

I ran a 2k1 Tib last year with Konis and H&R Sport springs. Also have the whiteline rear swaybar and a set of strut bars to finish it off. Anyway, of the events I went to, I always placed first or second...never less. That setup seemed to make the tib a big contender...I just had a problem adjusting the nut behind the wheel. I think I could have one the series if I had made it to all the event.

Sweet wheres a good place to look for those Konis and H&R springs, I think speedstate as some KYB's but I dont know my suspension stuff all too well, if I change struts in the front do I still need to change springs? I know I would in the back, just curious about the front though.

So far I have to get:

Konis/KYB struts/shocks
H&R or Eibach Springs
Rear Sway bar (Thats easy a 2k3 Tibs sway bar is 33% thicker and fits right onto ours)
Strut Bar (got that)

Possibly a set of R-Compounds, maybe then I will end up being a contender.

Last I checked tirerack.com had both the H&R springs and the Koni. Those pieces aren't cheap though. The struts are about 150 a pop and the springs are around 200 for the set. I think that's like a million canadian dollars ;-) Koni's website say they design their struts to work with oem springs, so if you're on a limited budget i'd get the struts first and the springs later.

I ran last year with factory suspension and was quit competitive, on the slow courses. Race tires REALLY make a BIG differance!

If you want to see what body lean really is, come see my Accent at an autocross or a driver's ed event!! The you'll appreciate how little the Tibs lean, even in stock form!
