Default Peak shifitng RPM on a Tibby

Hey I am just wondering when you shift for max speed when do you prefer to shift. Is it pushing it to Redline before the rev limiter kicks in or is there a better point to shift at where a more optimum power ration will be atained? Thnaks

On my 2002 Accent GS, I usually shift at redline or close to it in 1st gear. In 2nd gear and all the other gears I shift at 6,000 rpms(redline is at 6500 rpm). According to the dyno on my car, peak horsepower comes in at only 5400 rpm, but it does not start to really drop off till just over 6000 rpms. It's peak torque is at 4000 rpms, and when I shift from 1st to 2nd at redline, it drops the rpms down to just past 4000 rpms. In all other gears as well if I shift at 6000 rpms then the rpms will come down to over 4000 rpms so I am always in the cars power band.

well, as with your modifications listed, you will see that your HP will just about fall on its face at around 6K i suggest shifting from there, although in first gear it's hard, as it is a very steep first.

I'm pretty sure your right about the power falling on its facde around 6500 RPM I was going up against my buddy with a 03 tibby and he shifted earlier and he took me. Not by alot but he still was on top. His car was bone stock with a sub in it to. I figured I had him but it was the other way around. By about a car length but what can you do but practice right.

funny.. i hold my accent out to redline.. and that was before intake.. and ran better times than when I shifted sooner.. eh.. maybe mines just weird. Got .1secs for holding 3rd to 80.. only do that at the track btw.. I was looking at a dyno for a 2.0.. somewhere on this board the other day.. and noticed above 6400-6500 it did loose some.. but it was still higher at the redline than when u shift and drop to 4k... So wouldn't it be better to hold it in the higher hp and get a higher rpm for the next gear?

The Beta is one tough engine bro. It can withstand this kind of punishment. With a few basic treatments to the stock parts, it will be able to come back for more.
