Default Question on shifting

When racing, say from 1st to 2nd gear, do you let go of the gas then clutch and put into next gear ( normal driving). Is it benificial when racing (drag) to keep the gas down when shifting?? Is it bad for the car?

I usually seem to loose my advantage when i shift from 1st to 2nd gear when i race.

Sure, you can keep your foot on the gas a little. You don't want to leave it at WOT though. Also, if you learn to match the revs properly, you can actually extend the life of your clutch.

The shift speed is not at the shifter; its at the clutch.

Can I ask ( Since we are talking about shifting) My car is a Elantra 2.0 GLS 99. Which rev is it best to shift? I think my car reds out at 6500RPM. Must I shift before or after????

after you go over that redline, our cars will cut fuel.
i got a 99 Tib so our car is basically the same. i would say about 6200 to 6350 RPM would be the best. i was told that stock config. has highest power around that place. if you go all the way to redline, you will lose power instead. well, that is just my knowledge. correct me if i'm wrong.

I tried shifting at 6k at the track to compare it to redline shifts. almost saw a 17 sec slip... added near half a second. I dont think its a good idea.
