I race in SM and I have:

Tein SS Coilovers
Eibach Rear Swaybar
225/45R17 Kumho Ecsta MX (Soon to be replaced by 245/40 Ecsta V710)
TCE Performance Big Brake Kit (13" rotor, 6-piston caliper)

1-weight reduction
2-r-compound tires (205/50/15)
3-coils/shocks or coilovers
4-strut bars
5-engine (bolt-ons)
6-brakes (with dot4 or higher)
7-sway bars
8-4pts roll-bars
9-engine (internals)
10-LSD

That's pretty much the inder in which I would do things. However, if you begin autocrossing, you might want to have a look at the class rules. Avoid modifications that would place you in a high category. Also, don't modify before you have tried your car on a track. You street needs and track needs are not the same.

A racing bucket and a 4 or 5pts harness are usefull. Battery relocation behind passenger seat, urathane bushings/engine mounts are also usefull modifications.

Thats pretty much what I could think of. Have fun!

With an XD I'd skip stock and go straight to STS or FSP.

Mods (in order of necessity) for STS:
Lightweight 15" wheels and RT-215 Azenis or Kuhmo MX in 205-50-15
GK V6 struts with H&R Springs, H&R Cup kit, or Koni's if you want adjustments with H&R springs
Whiteline F+R Adjustable sway bars
PSC Strut bars
Ingalls 2* camber kit for each corner
Yaya bushing kit from Kspec
Full exhaust, preferably a RPW 4-1 race header, high flow cat, and 2.5" cat-back with no resonator and a small bullet muffler (Saves weight)
WAI
REAL ECM
underdrive pulley
short shifter
new rotors/pads (autoXing ONLY, if you do a track day this jumps to #2).

For FSP, I'd add/change a few things:
14x8 or 14x9 wheels with Kuhmo V710's or Victoracers, let em hang out the fenders.
AirRam IM and TB
more tuning with the REAL ECM, or goto a standalone

I would also add a race seat and a 4pt harness for safety and to help keep you planted when autoXing. And a magnetic numbers/class kit would be good so you arent using tape each weekend.
