I have 16" rims on my accent with 40 series tires. I am looking to go as low as possible. I have about 150 pounds of speakers in my trunk. so that weighs it down a little.
This is the best pic i have... sorry. But the back is a lot lower because of my stereo. If i get the SR 2" lowering springs am i going to need to roll my fenders? And if so, what is involved with this and what kind of costs?
My car is really deperate to get lowered so... any help would be great!
:??: Holy crap, you're cars ass is dragging as it is! :??: You need to get coilovers or lighten the stereo or something so you dont ride on the rear bumpstops.
This is how low you'll be with a 2" drop:
You will need to roll the fenders to fit the wheels. I suggest the eibach pro-kit (either the 98-99 kit like I have or the LC kit which only lowers you 1.5") or B&G springs.

I really like my stereo, so I'm not getting rid of it... But it does make my car ride about 3/4" lower in the back.
Part of the reason why the next thing I'm doing is putting in springs/ finding someway to get this car droped down is because i'm poor. Springs only cost about $200 and $150 to put it. SO coilovers are probably out of my price range.
Got a few questions:
What all is involved with rolling the fenders?
How much does this cost?
Do they just bend out your fender?
yea i have the same problem as you..i don't know about the 150 pounds of speakers (maybe more like 40) but i just lowered mine with the eibach pro kit for the lc. You will have to do something about the fenderwell, cause you will rub. i don't wanna roll out my fender, i'm gonna attempt to grind them down some along with the wall. The average shop will charge you a good amount to roll your fenders...probably 200-300 was the quote i got

No, you arent rolling the fenders out. Look up into the wheel well, see that little metal lip? That needs to either be cut off (bad because the exposed edge will be sharp and will rust) or rolled up flush against the fender so its no longer jutting out.
I havent had any problems yet with stock tires, but I suspect I will with the 15x6.5 rota slipstreams I plan on getting.8D

Well, i've heard lots of DIY ways of rolling that lip up.. some are better than others, do whatever you're comfortable with, or take it to a shop.
I've heard of people wedging a baseball bat between the tire and the fender and angling it up to roll that lip up. The other common thing is to get a rubber hammer and *gently* tap that lip until it rolls up. If I were to do it again, I think i'd try the baseball bat idea and then use the hammer from there.
The problem you're going to run into doing either of these methods is paint chipping or flaking. The mallet will just beat the hell out of it and I would think bending the lip that much, the paint would just break and kinda flake away.
Personally, I used a grider and shaved it down to nothing and then used touch up paint right afterwards to make sure I got all the exposed metal covered. Here in Texas, where we don't get salt on the roads or anything like that, I think I'll be ok, but I don't know that i'd recommend that to someone in a place where it snows (like it does where you live).
But, all of that is going to be a wasted effort anyway. On the LC Accent there is a bolt that attaches the fender to the bumper. That's where 95% of the rubbing is coming from I'd be willing to bet. I fixed the fender lip and the rubbing was still horrible. I think it was Jeff (suprgtrs) who figured out it was that bolt. All I did was relocate the bolt a few inches more towards the rear of the car and grinded off the part where it used to be.
I've got 16x7 +43ish wheels and I haven't heard any rubbing at all since I did all this. I'm lowered over 2 inches and can pack it full of people and still no rubbing.
so there is a lot more to it.....
Treybrad: i checked out your web site and read how your struts went out after having the lowering springs in for 2 weeks.
Is this the common scenario?
What kind of struts would fit? I dont think anyone makes them for the accent yet....
Pedders (www.pedder.com.au) does, for ~$600 for a complete set. KYB has slightly-better-than-OE replacements in the GR-2 strut. Whiteline currently has the rear struts, and are prolly working on the fronts.
