i got my eibach springs and gr2 struts in in a little under 3 hours. i didn't need any spring compressor on the back and didn't use an impact wrench on anything. just a breaker bar.

Does any spring compressor work or do you have to get the 'special tool' from Hyundai?
Also, is an impact wrench absolutely imperative or does it just make the job go quicker?

not sure what the special tool from Hyundai is. I used went to my local Autozone and got a spring compressor from them. Mine looks a lil different than Skierds. There is prolly 3-4 different ones out there.
Impact wrench is not needed, but definantly would cut the time down on doing springs. I think the biggest pain is loosening and tightening the spring compressor
Just a word of caution regarding spring compressors. I am in process of removing the stock springs to replace with Eibach Pro-Kit springs. Following the advice on this forum, I decided to proceed without the spring compressor. On removing the bolt that captures the spring, the strut shot about 15 feet across the garage with great force and the top mount , wrench and assorted bolts and washers shot the other way with enough force to put a hole in the drywall of the garage. I highly recommend using a spring compressor.
