Agreed... What I did would not be considered a job for an amateur (I didn't do it on my own, my neighbor helped me with the job). When we cut the strut apart, the spring was compressed during the whole job.
I'm new to auto diy and I have a simple question... how do you unclip the brake line from the strut. I know it's probably simple but I don't want to break anything.
Im about to replace my Struts in the next week or so. I was wondering if someone can post a picture of that brakeline part, because thats the only thing Im alittle worried about.
What nut sizes should I have prepared before doing this project? If I did one wheel at a time can I do this project with the jack that came with my Hyundai 2000 4dr Accent?
hey, im about to do this strut swap in another month, but i want to plan it out, so i don't get stuck during the process. If someone can please post a picture of the bumpstop, i think its the black rubber that goes on top the strut, because im putting in eibach sportline springs, it drops the car 1.2 front, 1.2 rear, or i might get the Intrax springs which drops the car 2.0 front, and 1.8 in the back, which one should i use??, i am also putting in KyB Gr-2 struts, I don't have an impact wrench but if i need 1, i'll go buy 1, thanks for all your help, very nice write up skeird, let me know, i'd appreciate it

Its the black rubber thingy on top. It shouldnt have to be trimmed to work with lowering springs but would gain you some travel back. Then again, you might trim too much and allow the SHOCK to bottom out, which is much more deadly.
I would use the eibach's for racing, Intrax for looks.
You dont really NEED an impact, but it helps. A lot. W/O an impact, you would remove the lower two bolts first, then remove the center nut in the strut mount and let the assembly fall. Its not under all that much spring pressure so it just basically falls with gravity down. Then all you need is a strong buddy to push the strut top down enough to compress the spring while you thread the nut on. A finesse, yet heavy handed manuever, but saves the $20 compressors and about 20mins.

thank you skeird for the info, one more question, in another post someone said the KYB GR struts will not work good with a drop more than 1.6, how so?? and also does anyone know of a company that makes a 1.6 front 1.5 rear drop for the LC??, i would really want to go with that kind of drop but if their is no make available, i'll just buy the 1.2 eibachs, but if there is a strut that is made for a lower drop and better handling then i might go with the intraxs 2.0 drop, let me know what drops / struts will be best for my car as i will race it at the track and have it as a daily driver, let me know whats the best bet for me, thank you
