i busted 1 of my struts so i might as well upgrade em. but id dont know which would go best with my setup....
b+g springs,17's .... could someone help point out some good struts (non adjustables)
thanx
KYBs are affordable but will wear out quicker than normal if used with drop springs, esp. more aggressive ones.
There are Konis, but they cost a little more than double what the KYBs do, and they're only inserts, so you have to gut the stock struts and install the Konis in the stock strut bodies, which is a bit of work.
Does Eibach make struts for the Tib? I know they're made to match up with Eibach springs, but wouldn't they do the job alright? (if they make them)
Unless you want to go to Monroe or Tuffy, KYB's are the only ones available aftermarket wise. Koni's are great, but they're adjustable and you said you didn't want that. The Eibach's won't work with B&G springs. It's too aggressive of a drop, they're tuned to work with their drop of 1.2". Looks like KYB is your only option. Check out H&R though.
No not a lot of choices. Koni inserts are expensive compared to regular OE or OE replacement dampers but they are inexpensive for an adjustable sport/performance strut. However, with the B&G springs these are your only real choice if you want them to last a decent amount of time.
Monroe? I didn't know they made tiburon struts. A lot of people I know have used monroe SENSATRACS with great success with lowering springs. They have two "zones": comfort and performance. If your strut is compressed past the comfort zone, the dampening rate goes up significantly. If you have lowering springs, it's always in the stiff performance zone. I don't know anyone who has used them with the Tib specifically, but I do know lots of people who have used sensatracs on their cars with Eibach springs which lower their cars between 1" and 2". They love 'em, great for street. And they've lasted years on their lowered cars too.
For $60 a strut that have the ability to dampen a lowered car, it's hard to go wrong. But like I said, I don't know anyone who's used them on a Tib, so no guarantees. Great reviews on other cars though...
I think the part numbers are:
Front:
R - 71550
L - 71549
Rear:
R - 71552
L - 71551

my KYB GR-2's are nice so far on the H&R springs but if they start to wear and loose there dampinging there is gonna be problems cause thats when the bumps could get dangerous to my oil pan.
nice ride .... were the kyb's the last addition to your suspension setup, and did you notice any big differences when installed them? (handling, ride quality)
