Default Traction

Hi,

For a FWD car, what type of suspension? setup could help with traction? My 98 Excel is stock, but I'm just curious if I did turbo it, what things would help with traction?

tighter bushings, adj shocks, performance springs...the usual. They all help to ekiminate wheel hop.

Step one for traction is getting wider and stickier tires.

Bushings = the little pieces that between some of your suspension pieces. You swap them out for stiffer ones.

I thought that if you got bigger wheels, it would weigh your car down, and so it would be slower under acceleration?

no, if you get heavier wheels it will weigh your car down. Bigger does not mean heavier.

I also said wider. This doesn't mean to go to 10" wide wheels but maybe a nice 7" wide wheel. Now the question will be rim size. Keep in mind the smaller the wheel (height) which will mean a higher profile tire the better your launches will be but the bigger the wheel with a lower profile tire, the better your cornering will be. A good all around size that will give you good looks, launces and cornering is a 16". Plus it won't break the bank. Now, all you have to do is find light weight wheels.

Rota makes affordable light weight wheels http://www.machiii.net/machiii/html/main001.html

Personally, I would do 16x7 for your car but if you are more interested in drag, then maybe a 15x7 would be better.
