Default New Springs, New Sway Bar, New Tires?

OK i got the Tib GT rear sway bar, and the Eibachs springs. The car handles great, better then ever before. I have one question and i think i know the answer but when i go around corners really hard now my back end walks back and forth like the sidewalls on the tires are too soft. To fix this i just need to get some new low profile tires right? any help would be great.

you got it man. if youre still running on the 14" steelies go get some 16x6.5 or 16x7 rims and slap 215/45 or 205/45 rubber on them and youll feel muuuch stabler around corners, for sure.

in my opinion, 16's would be a perfect size for the elantra.

From the sound of it, I'm assuming the rear sway bar is trying to do its job and bring the back end out for nice turn in on the hard corners, but the tires' sidewall are too soft, fluctuating between gripping and breaking loose. Follow beppomarx' advice, the handling limits will improve dramatically, plus the back end should break loose progressively and smoothly, which will keep your pants clean and your corners fast.

you dont think 215/45r16's would rub? My tires now are 195/60r15, im running some really nice yokohammas. Would i lose alot going with the 205/45r16's then the 215/45r16's?

Yeah right now it is kinda scary through the turns at high speeds, it is like driving in a really strong cross wind.

If the factory tires are 195, I'm pretty sure you can slip some 215s in there. I'm "hypothesizing" though. The main reason I think you should find out if 215's fit is because Falken Azenis Sports come in 215/45/16. They are unbelievablely awesome tires.

Its gonna be a VERY tight fit with the 215's. It pretty much comes down to correct offset to get those to fit right.

On a side note, I think part of the problem is either tire pressures and/or the driver. I could get my LC's tail to step out nicely with the 175-70-13 it came with, even with the 35psi I usually ran around with in the tires. If when you feel the tail step out of line, do you quickly jerk the wheel to countersteer? You have to be smooth or you'll do exactly what you described...

What tires do you have now? Be specific, nice yokohama's doesnt tell me jack, lol.

I still think its a driver control problem more than anything, it takes a while to get used to the ass end coming around on ya, esp in a fwd car.

OK Skierd,

The tire presure in my tires right now is 35 psi. I check it once a week to make sure.

Whan I feel the back end walking back and forth i hold my line and i try to be as smooth as posible.

Ok when i get home tonight i will post what tires i have on the car so then you can tell me good/bad/other.

Yes it could be me since it has only been 1 week with this new feel, i really want to go on an auto cross course and see how it handles.

A nice 205/50/16 works great and can be inexpensive with rims. I like the Yokohama AVS ES100 in that size. They are very affordable.
