Default Winter Tires

I dont know if i put this in the right place but i guess its kinda off topic but

Does anybody know of a good decently cheap winter tire?

Winter is coming up and I think my Ecsta Supra 712's might be bad in the snow

most tire shops should have decent priced mud and snow tires. unless you are thinking about getting studded tires...

They're OK with the reviews, but just take them with a grain of salt. When I was still driving across NYS in the winter, I wanted to find something that wouldn't wear as fast as Blizzaks. I bought the Michelin Artic Alpine's based on the reviews and found that they didn't work much better than an all-season tire for deep snow... I ended up taking them back after a week and dropped the coin for the Blizzaks.

You can tell the Michelins wouldn't do any better in the snow just by looking at the treads. What kind of conditios do you usually drive in? Are you mostly on dry, snow, or ice? If it is almost always dry, a performance all-season tire might be able to do it for you. If there is a lot of ice (e.g. Quebec), the Alpins are great and studded tires are even better. If there is a lot of snow, then get something that looks like it should be on a 4X4 (big lugs). I use studded Hankooks - they are the best compromise between snow and ice performance (and a pretty good price too), but they aren't very good in the dry. On problem with studded tires is that when the studs wear out (mine lasted a couple of seasons), you cannot replace the studs.

I would not recommend using your Khumo's in any type of winter weather driving (light snow, heavy snow, ice, slush, whatever). I have the same tires and last winter I kissed a lot or curbs. I live in Ohio and we had bouts of heavy snow last year. In the heavy stuff, once you're stuck, you're stuck, forget about it. In light snow, you'll get traction to go, but I personally had zero traction for braking. A mere 5 lbs of pressure on the brake pedal locked 'em up and I don't have ABS. I DID make it through the whole season, but not without some hairy moments. The worst thing is, all that snow, salt and extreme temps ruined the tires any way. It just seemed to accelerate the wear to the point where investing in some type of winter tire is worth it. Trust me.
