Default Need S-Coupe susp/brake mods advice

Does anyone know of, or could direct me for the best set up for the 93+ S-Coupe (NA) ?

Having a hard time finding anything more than sloted rotors and brakes...

Whats the best shock / Spring set up and are there any other mods like braces and sway bars ?

Thank you in advance for any insite !

Short of adapting some custom coilovers, I think the best set up is the adjustable Koni's with the spring of your choice.

I've got a 91 Excel which has an identical suspension as your Scoupe. I ordered my Konis from www.tirerack.com. I'm using B+G 1.5" springs. B+G is what Shark Racing sells as their own. The Scoupe spring set is 1.6", but you can use either one. It's my opinion that the more travel you keep, the better your car will handle. Instead of dealing with SR, I bought my springs from here: www.mmrusa.com/bghyundai.htm. Good price, good customer service, no hassle.

I replaced the swaybar bushings with poly at the endlinks and factory rubber where it mounts to the firewall. A possible upgrade would be the bar from a Turbo Mirage/Colt GT which I believe has a larger diameter and should fit the same. Not very common to come across in the yards, though.

For brakes, I'm exploring a few possible upgrades including a drum/disc conversion out back and getting rid of the captive rotors up front. There is a recent thread somewhere regarding this. You can also get some braided steel brakelines for these. Try www.kvrperformance.com.

I've got some pics in my profile - check 'em out.

I think this is still undocumented/uncharted territory.

I had corresponded with Bretton of www.performancestylingcentre.com.au a little while back, and he had some rear discs & calipers from a J1 Elantra that he was going to try and swap on. I don't know if he ever got to it or if he was successful or not.

I just found a 95 Elantra in a somewhat local yard with rear disc brakes. These are the ones that supposedly are a direct swap for Scoupe/X2 Excel drums.

From searching on www.car-part.com, it appears that they were only offered 94-95. You can use the search feature to narrow down a donor in your area.

If my schedule allows, I may go get them tomorrow. I currently need to change rear drum shoes, and would like to use that as an opportunity to do a test fit of the discs. I will update this as soon as I get new info.

As for a strut brace, there is a current thread dealing with this in the Accent/Excel/Scoupe forum.

Oh, one quick thing, do you know offhand what model # of shocks and springs you got ?

How is the handling ? cornering etc ?

Thanks and good luck with the swap.:

Springs:

1.5 drop - #30.1.006
1.6 drop - #30.1.004

http://www.mmrusa.com/bghyundai.htm

I just posted shock/strut #s in the other thread, but here they are again:

f - #86-2445
r - #80-2583

http://www.koni-na.com/display.cfm?m...ubmit=Continue

It handles awesome!! Cornering is unbelievable and I still have stock steelies w/the skinny-ass moped tires - I'm able to rail around exit loops way faster then I should and it tracks perfectly. I can even push it until I get all 4 tires breaking away and its still controlable. Keep in mind that most of my interior has been stripped so that may account for something.

205s on 7" rims will be sick fvcking grip. All in all, it handles sh!tty Jerzey roads just fine and stays nice & tight on the curves and smoother sections. When I get a chance I will readjust the Konis to 1/2 turn stiffer but its still good as is.

Still haven't picked up the Lantra brakes, but will do so soon. Unfortunately its cold as all hell now and is supposed to snow the next few days so it may be a little while before I can do the test fit. Shoots, your from Canada so I guess I can't complain! :

I always take lots of photos and will post my findings. :chinese:

What about camber ?

Did you install or have you had any problems with neg. camber ?

Found a source for those looking for parts:
http://www.mmrusa.com/ingalls/ingallshyundai.htm
Ingalls - Hyundai Camber Kits

And YES they have them for the S-Coupe !
I-81250 Scoupe 91-95 Front +/- 2° 38.96/pr
35410 Scoupe 91-95 Front +/- 1° 19.96/pr

Keep us posted man, Im dying to see how those breaks work out.

Oh... before I forget, are you running a strut brace or antiroll bars?
