Default cutting springs? (aftermarket)

im planning to put lowering springs on my car (1.7" drop). is it ok to cut the springs by .3~.5 "?, so my car could be lowered by 2". also do i need to change the shocks too?

Umm... BAD IDEA. First off, cutting springs destroys the springs rates and structure, making it unsafe. Second, that measurement is nominal. The car will most likely settle to 2", not 1.7". Also, 2" of spring does not equal 2" of added drop once the springs are loaded up on the car, due to spring rates.

cutting is acceptable when you use a linear spring...the rate changes a bit, but is predictable...with a progressive rate spring, you have no way of telling what is going to happen to your rates. THis also destroys what the engineers worked countless hours to perfect.

DO NOT CUT YOUR SPRINGS!

first: don't cut your springs

second: change your shocks, yes. you're going to want to do that eventually after installing lowering springs anyhow, while you have everything torn apart i would just go ahead and knock out both in one shot (cash allowing of course)

third: don't cut your springs; it's ghetto, unsafe, etc. if you're spending the money to get decent springs, don't ruin them. Buy coilovers if the drop is that important to you, or buy intraxx, they have around a 2" drop. *shrugs* just don't cut your springs. lol
