what i've learned through research is that drilling can be effective if the rotor is made of a material meant for the application. the ferrari enzo (and several ferraris, porsches, and supercars) come with DRILLED ONLY rotors. however, these rotors are ceramic/composite rotors, not cast like ours. the enzo's rotors cost $25,000 to replace, whereas what we buy costs about $150 or so. see what i'm saying? buy SLOTTED ONLY. if you find someone that makes ceramic rotors for a tiburon that are drilled, go for it....you won't, or you won't pay the mega big bucks they're asking. that's the moral of the story. slotted are the way to go. very effective and not prone to cracking under the rapid heating/cooling of braking as drilled are.

First off...I'd like to say.... ^^^^ word. :smoking:

You guys didn't really mention this, but if blank rotors were slotted, is the integrity of the wheel compromised as well as if it were being drilled? Granted, you're not cutting a deep gash into the rotor, but you're altering the physical form of the rotor. In other words, the rotor wasn't really constructed with slots in the first place. So...would there really be this kind of problem with slotting blank rotors?

Slotting and dimple drilling do not cause the same problems.

I feel alot better after reading this thread!!

I just bought a set of front/rear disc's from a group buy on Hyundai Aftermarket.I ordered drilled/slotted,but received slotted only. I was thinking about sending them back to be drilled, but now I won't.Between what I've read here and what my dad says(he's a 30 + year VW mechanic) I think I'm better off with what I got.

One other thing,though..........I was reading somewhere that slotted dis'c eat up the pads pretty quick. Is this true? If so, what is the average pad life with slotted only disc's??

Thanks

if the ones purchased from other places are drilled after the manufacturing process and will compromise the rotors how about the ones you guys sell on hp.com are the same thing?

auto, just wondering, are the little vertical bars the veins you were referring to?

http://ourworld.cs.com/Luigi3011/P1010074.JPG

if so, as long as they were avoided during drilling would that make them just as good as drilled when cast? also, what makes the fact that they are drilled during casting safer?

That's good to know.

I bought the EBC Dimpled/Slotted Sport Brake Rotors for my vette... those things stop on a dime. I was going to find a set for the Tib when it needed brakes eventually.

Good stuff.
