Default Grinding is Bad

Recently had some 15 inch wheels put in and new tires that supposedly maintained the same outer diameter and width as stock (Hyundai Accent 2003). I'm not sure why, but ever since that install, when I corner hard or the suspension (stock apart from strut braces on front and rear) bottoms out, I hear a grinding sound. It's not harsh, just as if the tires are hitting the inside of the well and scraping plastic. Can't prove my theory, that's just what it feels like.

Any ideas? It hasn't been lowered and most everything is stock.

Thanks for any help.

Whats the specs on those 15" wheels and tyres. I have 195/50/R15 Potenzas and 15 x 6.5" rims on my lowered '03 Accent and it rides fine no matter how hard I corner. I've only lowered it 1.3 inches though but I can't imagine how you'd be rubbing on stock height unless the wheel measurements are infact larger than stock somehow...hope this helps...

Welcome to the wonderful world of tire rub! Your tires are wide enough to contact the fenders at full suspension compression, and thats a good thing. Roll the fender lips and get any sharp metal away from the tire's contact point and you'll get rid of most of the rub and remove any real chance of cutting a tire.

Luckily, theres nothing that can slice and dice my tires up, but they're still stock width and outer diameter for the 2003 accent, doesn't seem like they should be doing that, I'll check up on specs of the wheel and tire and post back later though.

if the width and diameter are still stock then your new wheels must have a differnt offset to the stocko's. Just roll your gurads and you should be fine.

I had the same problem and rolled my fenders, mostly gone, however, in the 03s we have a little plastic connection to the bumber that is hard to get out of the way, it still rubs on that, but i figure that I wont get full compression as often with my k-sport coilovers, I'm hoping that it eliminates the rubbing completely and solves all of my car's other roblems magically... :-) anyway...

I ahve a question along similar lines, the rear tires sit within mm's of the strut housing on my new rims. at high speeds i get a vibration, i got the wheels(brand new OZ supperleggeras, just balanced again) re-balanced, the vibration over 65 is still there, I think that at high speeds that the sidewall of the tire is making contact with the housing and causing the vibration, also being that these coilovers probably arent as FAT as the macpherson struts, I'm hoping this problem also goes away with the coilovers... am i hoping for too much???

wheels 15x7
tires 195/50/r15

my struts are dead, it was my plan all along to kill them, I just didnt know it would be that easy, so i'm just riding on the Pro-kit... also i have visible camber in the back, dont know exactly how much though :-( that might help....

I have 15x7 Rota GT3s (38mm offset) with 205/50r15 Falken Azenis.

The lower spring perch on the rear K-Sports was close enough to make me install a 1/4 inch spacer to keep the tires away from the perch under hard cornering on course. I am planning on installed a 3 inch shorter set of springs in the back to allow me to remove the space and bring the rear ride height down since outside clearance problems will be elminated when the spacer is removed.

The K-Sports are more narrow than a stock setup, but the perches are lower, so you may actually make your problem worse.

I just took a hellish trip to arizona and found out what the actual problem was, my A-arm bushings are going out. and I have plenty of clearance all around my wheels, so when I get my car in the air to put in the k-sports, I will replace the bushings...
