Brake problems with my 2006 Hyundai Sonata GL V6 (Canada)
01 Dec. 2005 ( this is going to be a long post)
This is my original post placed in the Hyundai-forum.

On Sep.1st. 2005, I took possession of my new 2006 Sonata GL V6 Sedan, 3.3L with 235 HP (Canada).
About three weeks later, after I had driven about 1200 km with the car, the brakes started to make a squealing type of noise when the brakes were applied after the vehicle had been stationary for a while.
After driving some distance and applying the brakes several times, this noise would disappear.
If the vehicle was stationary for a while and then was driven again, this noise would come back again and would subsequently go away as I mentioned above.
Since I had received a recall notice regarding faulty seat back reclining knobs and had made an appointment to get that problem fixed, I was planning to ask the Hyundai dealership were I was to get this recall work done to have a look at my brakes and see if they could find what was causing that noise.
On 22 Nov. 2005, the recall work was done and I had the oil & filter changed.
I also asked that the brakes be checked.
There were 2476 kms showing on my odometer when my vehicle entered the dealership shop.
I was told by the service manager that the brakes were checked and that nothing wrong was found with them.
He believes it may have been some rust...or dampness...or dirt on the rotors that may have been the cause and that after driving for a short while and applying the brakes this rust or whatever was there comes off and the brakes don't make anymore noise.
He said that there was nothing else that they could do for me and to keep on driving the car and that with some additional mileage, the noise might go away.
As I was leaving the dealership, I saw and talked to the mechanic who had been working on my car and asked him about the check he had made on my noisy brakes.
He said that he only did a visual inspection of the rotors without removing the wheels.
He did not check the brake pads for defaults or other problems and did not check or grease any moving parts associated with the brakes in the wheel area.
As a result, I went back and talked to the service manager and informed him of what I had learned.
To make a long story short, he was not prepared to do anything more for me at this time or at a later date.
He was not prepared to possibly do a better check or to change the brake pads & grease the moving parts in an attempt to solve this problem.
In essence, I have a new 2006 Sonata with noisy brakes and I will just have to live and put up with it.
I don't have to tell you that I'm not very pleased with this situation and I don't accept the explanation that I was given.
I can't believe that a Hyundai dealership would deal with one of his patron in such a detached manner.
I hope that someone will contact me and give me some advice as to what could possibly be done to solve my predicament.
Thank you for any possible assistance.

My second post -
Following my unsatisfactory original contact on 22 Nov. 2005 with the dealership that was supposed to check and attempt to fix the squealing and noisy brakes on my new 2006 Hyundai Sonata GL V6 - 3.3L with 235 HP, I contacted by e-mail the Customer Relations Branch of Hyundai Auto Canada on 23 Nov. 2005.
I explained my brake problems to them along with an explanation has to what had taken place and what I was told by the Service Manager on 22 Nov. 2005.
Customer Relations Branch answered my email at 9:52 AM a little later on that same day and discussed briefly the problem.
They also asked me to provided them with the name of the dealership in question and that they would contact the Service Manager and inquire if they could check my brakes a little more thoroughly.
At this time, I provided them with the name of the dealership.
At 2:15 PM on the same day, I received a call from the Service Manager asking me when I could bring my car in for a more thorough check of my brakes.
An appointment was made to bring the car to the dealership at 3:00 PM the next day, 24 Nov. 2005.
At 2:54 PM on 23 Nov. 2005, I received a second message from Customer Relations Branch informing me that the Service Manager had advised them that
he had contacted me and that they had made an appointment to check the brakes on my vehicle the next day.
On 24 Nov. 2005, I attended the dealership and the Service Manager told me that they would de-glazed the rotors and the brake pads.
The car was taken in and they worked on the brakes.
I don't know as yet if this de-glazing of the rotors and brake pads will correct my problem but I certainly hope so.
I must tell you that I was very impressed and pleased by the prompt response to my email and the quick action of the Customer Relations Branch of Hyundai Auto Canada.
All this just to let you know that if you have a problem with your Hyundai vehicle, don't hesitate to contact their Customer Relations Branch for possible assistance.
They were very helpful and effective in my case.
My confidence in the Hyundai company has been restored and re-enforced.
Happy motoring everyone in your Hyundais.

My third post -
As you have read above, the local dealership told me that they de-glazed the rotors and brake pads and that this may correct this problem. Unfortunately, it did not.
I would describe my brake squealing has being similar to a high pitch whistling noise.
As an example, when the car is backing-up and the brakes are applied slowly, this whistling is quite noticeable at all wheels.
My wife can hear this whistling from inside the house even when the door is closed when I'm backing-out of my driveway.
Can anyone assist me with the possible cause of that braking noise.
Surely, a brand new car should not be making noise like that.
Thanks for any help,
Monandy
