I drive a 2002 accent and i was wondering if anyone knows how to remove the drum, me and my friend have tried everything, and it wont budge. Does any one have a easy way to do it with out taking it to a shop, is there a way to loosing the brake if it is pushing all the way out?
I don't want to sound like a smart azz, but is the e-break on? Have you taken the big azz nut that holds the drum off? It right behind the 1.5" cap that covers the bolt, right in the middle. I think its a 22 or 23 mm socket. Then the drum should slide right off, might need to use a rubber mallet and hit it a couple of times. Hope that helps.
Actually on an Accent you don't even need to remove that nut. The nut is actually to remove the entire hub which isn't required. What has happened is as you wore your drums out there now is a groove on the inside edge of your drums and thats what the brake shoes are catching on the only thing you can do is hammer and pry bar it off.
Sort of a silly design if you ask me...

Everytime i take off my drums, i remove the center nut. which holds on the drum. Their is no other way it will come off for me. I believe that is the way to get the drum off. you can hit it as much as you want. it will not come off with out that nut removed. Im not trying to put you on the sport or anything. In my exp the nut has to come off in order to get thedrum off. and you are right about the groove in the drum.
I have pulled the drums on an Accent and I also say the nut does not need to come off. Mine was really tough too, but in the end after hammering, liquid wrench, etc. I was able to pull them off by using 2 prybars and pulling out on both sides while a friend hammered on the back side of the drum.
