I only paid $10 for insurance this month

Like I said, if you do have to do an inspection, you will be fine. Make sure your tires have tread and the brakes have meat left. If you don't have CELs, you are fine.

Yeah the whole process is ridiculous... They just scan the OBD. Technically, you could just have a standalone ECM with fake inputs giving fake outputs (garbage in garbage out) and just plug that in... I can't believe they don't dyno the car like they do here.

I wonder what they would do to my car? It's got NO ECM, and absolutely no computer in the car at all.

I think its 1996 and older cars that get the dyno test still. Only OBDII cars, 1997 and newer get the OBD port scanned.

With yours Jed, when it turns 20 you'll get only a safety check done, but youre gonna have to register it as a collector car which means you can only drive it a certain amount of miles a year.

I am worried about my racing seat with a custom rack (using 4 original holes in the floor) and my clear corner headlights. I also have an occasional CEL because of my after market exhaust. The ECU does not seem to like the higher airflow.

I was told by the DMV I had to do import this thing, you guys are saying that with a canadian permanent address I can get away with keeping it "Canadian"?

thx for your help guys, please continue to respond. It's helping me a lot lol.

Racing seats, I have the same thing going on, not a problem. Neither are clear corners, so long as you don't have blue bulbs in there. They aren't as picky about stuff like that as they are in Canada.

I've been driving my car around up here for over a year now with NY plates. Its fine, they don't care. I got pulled over a few times, just told them Im a student, thats all. If you get pulled over with Quebec plates in NY, just tell them you are there on a work permit temporarily. I really wouldnt go through the trouble of importing the car if you're only gonna be there for 2 years. You really dont need to do that.
