Default Want to try something new and fun? (LA residents)

Its something that is mocked by most people, however is coming up lately, and a possible Olympic sport in the next 8 years or so. Sumo Wrestling. Ive been a Sumo wrestling fan all my life after living in Japan, but a few months ago got into amateur sumo wrestling.

In amateur sumo wreslting, there are weight classes, so you dont have to go against people twice your size like in the pros. You also dont have to be bare butt, as in amateur sumo wreslting, you can wear shorts under your "mawashi" which is the traditional garb of wrestlers.

In January our "club" is starting two practices a month again in Santa Monica. Anyone is welcome to come and participate. A few weeks ago an entire group from UCLA (guys and girls) game and participated as it was a birthday for a friend. Its really fun, and an INCREDIBLE workout. Our organizer/coach was just on ESPN2 Cold Pizza the other day, and puts on all kinds of events...he was the coordinator for the Sumo Scene in Memoirs of a geisha, if any of you have seen that movie.

If you dont live on this planet, and dont know what is sumo, here is a good match to watch if you have high speed internet. Its between a 6'7" bulgarian guy vs. the current grand champion:

If anyone is interested in coming to one of our practices, let me know. Our clubs website (hasnt been updated in a long time) is www.usasumo.com.

First practice of the new year is this Saturday at noon in santa monica.

Bradley? SUMO?
WTF?
You've gotta be like the smallest built guy in sumo.
You got the height but not sure about the weight...
It's the one thing I kick myself in the ass for not being able to see in person while in Japan.. I keep telling myself. "o.k. next time..."

what up man? long time no see....
I'll pop up every now & again just to see how Mr. Rob is doing with HP.
Haven't posted in like forever, just dosen't feel the same. (at least for me...)
I think alot of the O.G. hyundai tuners aren't around...

It's funny how your interest is in SUMO cuz I'm actually looking into Kendo.
Spent alot of time in and out of Japan last two years.
Funny how kendo is a Japan requirement in elementary school kinda like P.E. for us here in the states. It's just that Kendo has much more heritage & background to it.
It was cool watch'n the students keep'n it real old school. It was a very strong & spirtual experience for me as Japanees culture has always fascinated me since I was a kid... friends and family always thought it was kinda wierd.

I might have to check out your SUMO deal. As long as it doesn't turn in to "Pride" fighting match from Japan.
