Default Any Washington people want to drive to Hyundai Sunday with me?

[EDIT]Hyundai Sundai is on for August 27th

I'm considering driving to Hyundai Sunday in Toronto this year. Last year it was a lot of fun. I would be willing to take 2 passengers. If more people are interested we can take more than one car. I will only drive if I have 2 passengers to split the cost with. Less than that and I'll just fly because it would be cheaper. HS happens in August, but a date has not been confirmed yet. You can review the thread in the Canada section if you would like.

Between the drive there and back and running around the Toronto area I estimate the trip will be around 6500 miles. At $3.60/gallon(est.) that's $780 for gas alone. I am figuring on 2 days driving there and 2 days driving back with a 4 day 3 night stay, so 8 days total. I assume we're driving straight through there and back in shifts so I haven't budgeted for lodging on those nights.

Here's a break down of estimated concrete expenses:

Gas.............................$780.............. ....$260/person
Lodging.......................$260................ ...$87/person
Total...........................$1040............. ....$347/person

Here is what I estimate it may cost for the rest of our expenses per person intending on having a pretty good time:

Food............................$300
Entertainment/misc.......$400

Total trip cost...............$1047

Modify those numbers as you see fit for your own calculations. I think the way I would do it is to take a payment of $350 at the beginning of the trip from each person to ensure that we are at the very least able to get to our destination and back. Sorry, I've been burned by a guy not having the money he said he did on a road trip and ended up having to fund everything and run out of gas. It's not personal...especially considering that I don't even know who is going. Beyond you being covered for the trip there and lodging for that price when we arrive you would be on your own. I will adjust the price lower as necessary based on the price of lodging reservations if they are cheaper. I will cover it if they are more expensive.

Anybody interested? Anybody interested in flying instead if only 2 of us want to go? Also, I'm open to the idea of someone else driving and me being a passenger, or other ideas.

To get into Canada and back into the US you need your birth certificate and an ID or a passport.

Example of schedule:

Day 1: Leave in the early morning 6:00AM
Night 1: Sleep as we drive in shifts

Day 2: Drive all day
Night 2: Sleep as we drive in shifts

Day 3: Arrive in Toronto at +/- 6:00AM. Socialize/sightsee
Night 3: Check into Motel 6.

Day 4: Socialize/sightsee
Night 4: Motel 6

Day 5: Socialize/sightsee
Night 5: Motel 6

Day 6: Socialize/sightsee
Night 6: Depart for home 6:00PM

Day 7: Drive all day
Night 7: Sleep as we drive in shifts

Day 8: Drive all day
Night 8: Arrive at home +/- 3:00PM

I like the drive straight through approach...always have. I think I can eat cheaper and maybe entertainment to but the quoted price is good.

I would like to go but prob. wouldn't know until late july at the earliest. (I just got july 1-4 off from my new boss today).

Plus, I don't know if I will have money at that time as I am currently starting a new business, and I wanted to do Sturgis this year.

48 hour drive one way? WTF!

I (we) did 1760 miles in a rental truck pulling a car in 24 hours. That was with 90 mins. waiting for the rental company to come put on a new tire. Otherwise only stopping long enough for gas. avg=78mph

I've also done 1190 miles in an 20 yr. old blazer in 17 hours. Only gas stops. avg=70mph

I once got 444 miles by myself in 5 hours and 10 min. of road time, not counting stops. I melted the plastic bumper above my exhaust and smelled the engine for a few days. avg=85mph
:evil::evil::evil:

Hmm, I also made the University District of Seattle to the "Rose District?" of Portland in 2 hours 5 min. I think thats about 175-180 miles. That was in the LC with prob. 450 lbs. of passengers besides myself. avg=86mph

LOL...I was just estimating based off of Google maps. It's 2630 miles. We should arrive somewhere between 45 hours (3 hour time zone change is why not 48) and 35 hours I estimate based on real driving speeds, bathroom breaks, and stopping to eat and stretch our legs. There are a few things on the way I'm sure that would be worth seeing. I like to take a lot of pictures.

Let me know, you're welcome to come if you can make it.

I also tend to drive really quickly on road trips. I crossed the continental divide at 105mph because my Blazer's speed limiter wouldn't let me go faster. I also cruised at 115 in the LC2 from Mt. Rainier to Spokane except for when conditions wouldn't allow it. I've slowed down a bit now though.

If we want to get there fast maybe we should take the Firebird and cruise at 150mph. We'd get there in 17 hours...

No, scenic stops sound ok too. I just couldnt figure out why a drive would take 48 hours.

I think that taking a Hyundai would be preferred over the Firebird anyways.

Well, Sturgis fell through so this looks like a better probabilty. Still only around 40% though.

Okay. Let me know. Hoping for another bite for the second passenger. If not I'll probably be flying. It was like $315 last year to fly.

Well, last call I guess. You in Gabe? If it's just the 2 of us wanting to go it's cheaper to fly and rent a car.
