Default Memorial Day Mt. Rainier camping trip (56k no-no!)

Trip happened, it was great for those who missed it. See posts towards the end for pictures and to read about what you missed.
~Floyd

Memorial Day weekend I am camping in Cougar Rock campground up on Mt. Rainier. Anyone who wants to go is invited. This isn't so much about the cars this time, although the road there is wickedly awesome for a spirited cruise if some of us met up first. There are opportunities for amazing magazine quality group photos.

A question I have been asked is what will the weather be like at that time? It should vary from upper 30's to upper 50's (or better). Here is a chart you can look at for nearby Packwood: Average High/Low Temperatures for KSMP : Weather Underground

Basically it will be cold at night, so you'll require a decent sleeping bag. Chance of rain is low, but chance of occasional drizzle is pretty good. Nothing a run of the mill tent couldn't deal with though. Cougar Rock campground is within 5 miles of the park entrance. It is not way up on the mountain and we won't be dealing with a bunch of snow or anything like that. There will be snow to play in at the top of the mountain though.

The campground is excellent IMO. Nice flat spaces for tents or trailers, plenty of clean restrooms, spacious sites, good firepits with grilles for cooking, etc.

Spaces can fill up quickly for holiday weekends although this is well before their peak season. Price is $15/night per site.

My camping trips generally involve a lot of eating and drinking, some sightseeing, and a lot of poking at the fire much of the day. I have been told I am an excellent campfire cook, and you are free to find out for yourself if you come along.

I think there was more noise coming from Wilbur's tent and from my tent than you guys'.

But then we were trying to draw attention to the neighboring campsite where that guy was beating his wife and daughter...
