Default Austin, TX

I am thinking about moving to Austin within the next 6 months (assuming I get a job there before then). I was wondering which parts of the area are nice and how many of you live around there. I have been looking online at kbhomes.com and have found some nice 5,211 sqft houses around there for around $225k. Give me your opinion on the area.

Austin is like any other city... There are it's nice new areas and there are some really nice old areas. I guess you are looking for a new build home, so you will probably see Round Rock, Cedar Park [North Side] - Kyle, Buda [South Side] - West Lake [West Side] - Elgin, Bastrop [East Side]. I work downtown and bought a house in Kyle just last year. Hays County has a way lower tax rate than Travis County. I don't know about Williamson County...

My wife and I looked a lot of homes last year. I we ended up buying a Gehan Home. We have been very happy with our home and got alot of extras!

What area(s) are you looking at?

I've been looking at Roundrock and Cedar park mostly. If I get called for any interviews, I will definitely take a few extra days off and take a look around the area to get some sort of feel for the city and such. Any pointers/tips would be great

Both areas are really nice. Round Rock has a lot of construction going on now. IH-35 sucks... But the build up is wonderful. Shopping, great places to eat and Round Rock Express Baseball makes up for the construction. I have alot of friends buying homes in Cedar Park too. US 183 should be finished by now, so getting into Austin shouldn't be too bad..... Because I live south, I'm not the best person to talk about Round Rock and Cedar Park, but I will try to help you out as much as I can....

If you were new and moving to the Austin area, where would you move?

That's a good question.... I tend to lean towards South Austin. But I would look at all the new communities around Austin and the surrounding areas. I've lived in Austin for a total of 13 years now. My folks bought a house in 1992 in South Austin and everybody said we lived out in the sticks. Now there are apartments, and newer communities. My wife and I wanted to buy in Austin, but KB, Lennar and D.R. Horton are very proud of their 25% brick homes. So, I looked outside the city limits. I'm a proud homeowner of a 2 story 75% brick in Kyle. Yes, I'm 15min from Austin, but in 5-7 years Austin, Buda and Kyle will have grown and that road time will be a thing of the past.... Besides, it lets me open up my ol Tiburon now and then!

All areas are nice here in Austin. The closer you get to any bodies of water the more you are going to pay [of course]. For some reason, there isn't too much new developement in East Austin....The developers want to build North, West and South. Best bet is to print out all of the areas you would like to see and get your realtor to make you some info packets, then when you make your visit you have some type of plan.

I think the two choices you mentioned [Round Rock and Cedar Park] are great choices - lots to do in those area. My choice between the two would be Cedar Park tho.... [Depending on where your job is going to be. Most of the Tech companies, Dell - Samsung, are located in Round Rock]
