Prior to the date of this post, there were zero issues with opening the trunk. Now, however, the lid will not open when...
  • the driver's door truck release is pulled (solenoid is heard);
  • when the remote button is pushed (solenoid is heard);
  • the key is turned within the trunk lock.
Two things do open the trunk: Emergency Release within the trunk, and doing the "turn-trunk-key-in-lock-then-press-remote-button" trick, a fact that confounds me.

Anyone have experience t'shooting this problem?

I have a suggestion: It could be the latch mechanism is simply faulty and behaving wonky/intermittently. Since the latch mechanism is pretty much the target component at issue here--and a relatively inexpensive part--it's reasonable to replace it to attempt at remedy.

Swapping out a trunk latch mechanism is a breeze when one has easy and convenient access to it. But for those unlucky enough to have a closed trunk lid (that will not open) you must do the deed from inside the trunk, contorted into uncomfortable positions, and with artificial illumination. Two 10mm fasteners hold the thing to the sheet metal, and the locking cable must be de-latched. But wait.. there's more... The latching mechanism must be "unlatched" from the loop proper using a small flathead screwdriver and some difficult-to-describe combination of fiddling and shear determination.

Good luck!
