Wiki shows they are both using the Alpha I - Alpha II engine so they should be interchangeable. Is the donor engine VVT? You'll need an ECU that'll run VVT for that swap... Accent 1.6 may be a better option if you're after a little extra power.

I'm still cutting my teeth on Hyundai stuff. My main gig is older Mitsubishis. It will depend on whether your car has a return fuel line vs the transplant engine. If both have the same fuel rail set up (return/non/return) then I'd think the swap should be nut and bolt. If one has a return and one doesn't, they will have different sensor inputs to the ECU and won't just interchange (MAP sensor/MAF sensor) A Beta I swap might be an option (1.8/2.0) Extra 300-500 cc's will get the lightweight Excel hauling...
