Hi,
I am a mechanic familiar with checking/setting base ignition timing on Mitsubishi's engine. In a Mitsu's engine there is a brown plug near the firewall, ground it to disable electronic timing advance, and you may start aiming the timing light.

Well, I now have a 2001 Hyundai Matrix running the 1.8l BETA, which I do not know how to disable the electronic timing advance. Can you pls advise on the procedure? Is there any terminal I need to ground or jumped, like the Mitsu's engine?

thanks in advance,

from my understanding, the beta engine is hyundai's and not based off mitsu

the only advice i have is that you use the <a href="http://www.hmaservice.com/">Hyundai Service Tech Page</a><img src=/images/forums/snitz/finger.gif width=33 height=15 border=0>

I do not know of anyway to disable the timing advance. As the DIS system is 100% controled by the ECU, I do not think there is a way to do it.
