1.8L Elantra to 2.0L swap

Question I have a 97 1.8L Elantra 5sp with a dead engine. Have the opportunity to pickup a crashed 97 2.0L Tiburon w/good engine & transmission cheap. Will the 2.0L directly bolt up? do I need to change the ECU out? Wiring harness? Transmission? any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Its up.. the same car dood.. You should have no issues. At least none that i know of.

If i were you, grab the 1.8 cams out of the Elantra engine and put them in the 2.0, they are better lift and duration. Also, i think the 1.8 ECU is better, but not sure.
use the 1.8 ecm it is hella good(if you dont mind the gas useage)
the intake cam is the only one that is different
Thanks for the replies so far. Just to verify from what I’m hearing from you guys it should just be a straight swap with no need to change wiring harnesses, ECU’s, or Motor mounts? What advantage would I get from installing the 1.8L CAM in the 2.0L Motor? If I did this is there anything special involved or just swap the cam and check the valves? What things should I check/change while I have the engine out (Water pump, timing belt). Thanks again.

P.S. the object of this swap is just to get a good engine in the car not make a racer but while I’ve got the engine out might as well put a little work in it
The cam is better for performance so if your not going that route it might be better to leave it alone. Keep the ecm in place its better overall from everything Ive heard. Only disadvantage to the 2.0 is higher piston speeds thanks to its longer stroke, but again your not going for high performance so you will be ok. If you want better gas milage it would be a good time for a UDP ;): Yeah its mainly for performance but I saw a nice gain in MPG as well. If your putting in a tib 5spd I think they have a lower final so its going to drop your mpg anyway... might want to do something to help keep it good on gas :dead:
I looked into the specs for the various cams on the hmaservice website. The 1.6 is by far the wimpiest cam. The 1.8 and 2.0 cams have identical lift/lobe height but the valve timing and duration are different.

1.6:
Intake: .206 (open 16btdc - close 48abdc)
Exhaust:.193 (open 43bbdc - close 17atdc)


1.8:
Intake: .215 (open 26btdc - close 46abdc)
Exhaust: .203 (open 55bbdc - close 9atdc)


2.0:
Intake: .215 (open 18btdc - close 54abdc)
Exhaust: .203 (open 47bbdc - close 17atdc)

some of the 2.0s have diffrent lift/duration. What year is that?
There is no difference in lift between any of the years I checked (1992-1998). However, valve timing and duration is different.

2.0 (95-98)
Intake: .215 (open 18btdc - close 54abdc)
Exhaust: .203 (open 47bbdc - close 17atdc)

2.0 (94)
Intake: .215 (open 12btdc - close 46abdc)
Exhaust: .203 (open 55bbdc - close9atdc)

2.0 (93)
Intake: .215 (open 28btdc - close 46abdc)
Exhaust: .203 (open 55bbdc - close9atdc)

2.0 (92)
Intake: .215 (open 26btdc - close 46abdc)
Exhaust: .203 (open 55bbdc - close9atdc)

wow, they keep the same lift even after switching away from straight up mitz motors. :ermm: Any data on the shim head beta2 or the new cvvt equiped beta2?
