The celica is also like $5000 more.

I will tell you one thing though, we're a 4 cyl. with 170hp (est.150 whp) and a CAI and Exhaust will prolly only pick up around 3-6whp, a V6 Tibby with 181hp (est. 160 whp) will prolly be picking up around 10-15whp with just those 2 mods if they are perfectly tuned for the engine, those are the only advantages I see off the V6 over the 4 cylinders... yes it's not 200hp but that's what the aftermarket is here for...

and as he said, much cheaper and worth the money afterwards once you start adding mods... Just think about it, all you prolly will need is an intake and it will be out the celica with an intake and exhaust, NOW they purchased a more expensive car and more mods to still be beaten by a Hyundai... wwwwwwwwooooooohhhhoooooooo but then again, V6 mods are more expensive at least when it comes to exhausts...

The 2001 tibby is way better anyway, If the v6 doesn't come with at least 200 hp , forget it!!, prepare to be beaten by the 4 cylinders...

Hmmm..
Some competition in europe:

Name / type / engine / hp / 0-60 times
Alfa Romeo 156 2.5 V6: 187hp, 7.3
Alfa Romeo GTV 3.0 V6: 220hp, 6.7
Peugot 406 coupe 3.0 V6: 200hp, 7.7
Seat Leon 2.8 V6: 200hp, 7.3
VW Passat 2.8 V6: 185hp, 7.7

Tuning parts for Alfa/Seat/VW are available everywhere.

Conclusion:
The new coupe V6 need some good tuning parts to get the hp up and over the 200. Only then Hyundai can compete with the big boys.

See what chiptuning and an exhaust do to an Alfa GTV: http://www.madeno.nl/nl/cars/XB-FD-54i.html

Don't trust the manufactures rated hp.
See artical in "Sport Compact Car" mag Dec.2001 The Bullshit Filter
They dyno cars themselves and often find 20-40hp less then what the manufacture lists, so don't always trust what you see on paper.

I personally love it and about getting beaten by 4 cyls. there have been lots of stories about eclipses and even mustang getting beaten by 4 cyl. cars out there so it ain't such a big deal.

I feed my Shark honda's for breakfast!!

Remember though how much more torque you'll have over the RSX and the Celica. That's what everybody is forgetting.

The 177 lb-ft.

Just think what a turbo will do for the 6 banger!! A turbo plus more displacement equals big power!!:)

2000 5-speed, mostly stock.

First off the Celica is either 140 HP (GT) or 180 HP (GT-S)

The new Tiburon will have about 45 Ft Lbs of torque on the Celica.. (132 vs 177) and the celica GT-S is still $5000 more.

Which do you think will respond to mods better? A V-6 with 181 HP or a I-4 with 180 HP? There's more potential in the V-6.

Leave it to Random to Needlessly complicate things.

we did open the hoods, but unfortunately all that plastic crap that all new cars come with now, was blocking us from seeing the entire area, all I could see was enough room for a CAI, but i can't see the front part of it... hopefully we will go back and I will take pics...

Looks very sharp, although it's like a mutt...cross breed....between the new celica, cougar, grand am, and rsx. I understand that it's a V6 but do you think it'll outrun the RSX and the Celica GTS? You guys have to do better than 15.2 secs 1/4 mile to beat the Hondas and Toyotas. Personally, I don't think it will. Maybe it'll do high 15's or so. But you never know..Hyundai Power!!
