Okay, I'm ready for everyone to start b*tching at me....

For those that are wondering WTF I'm talking about...

Pacesetter offers a CAT back exhaust for 1997-1999 Tiburon's. The system sells for roughly $200.00. It has a nice low, throaty sound and is made of painted steel.

Anyhow... it only required minor modifications to fit my 2000 Tiburon.

Changes needed:
1. I made a trip to my local NAPA store and bought an O2 sensor plug. It seems that 2000's are in front on the CAT and obviously 1999's are behind it.
2. Gerry-rig (or is it jerry-rig) a hanger just past the CAT because it's not there on the 1999 system.

Other than that the system bolts right in place and the muffler uses all three existing rubber mounts (hangers).

So OK, I'm thrifty (all right... cheap) so with the $300.00+ I saved compared to the other systems that are available I'll be able to install my neons and some other mods.

My 2000 is that pastel yellow so that's why my wife and I chose the pastel purple.

It's actually plum.

Looks sweet, just waxed it up getting ready for NOPI!

Did you notice any performance gains from the pacesetter? There is one on ebay that I might buy. And how much did it cost to get it modded to fit your 2nd gen?

Drive it like you stole it.

Cost to modify... about $9.50 from my local NAPA store. All I purchased was the special O2 plug, and extra 2 1/4" clamp and universal hanger. I also stiffened up the rear rubber hanger so that the tail pipe wouldn't rattle and bump the body.

Performance... I'm not sure, perhaps a little. I had just put my MHP CAI on that that was impressive so the changes from the CAT-back were suttle.

It sounds nice, certainly not like a bumble bee - LOL!

I emailed Spider Performance Automotive about this catback. The guy simply told me they did not have an application for the 2001 Tib yet. If it is that easy to mod for the 2000, it should be the same for a 2001, right?

preese,

I believe that the 2000 and 2001 are identical but perhaps Random or someone else "in-the-know" could clear this up.

PS If you order from Spider, list your Tiburon as a 1999, it will save you the hassle of a few emails. Pacesetter won't give you a warranty if they know it's being used on a 2000 or 2001 as they claim it wasn't designed for it. Like I said, the O2 plug and one add-on hanger and it fits like a glove!
