I have a question about the 2002 Elantra dash. I took a ride in one last night and I noticed the dash and how it glows a purpleish-blue (very cool). I wanted to know if those are just purple dash lights or if the gauges are purple themselves.

If they're just the bulbs I wanted to know if they would work in the 97 Tib FX. I love that color

I think you are talking about the GT, the lights are purple, the gauge faces are black. If I am wrong, someone correct me.

I'm probably gonna sound dumb, but do any of you know what the heck VDO stands for? The only other car I can think of off the top of my head that has a similar instrument cluster are the VW's, but when I tried out the lights a few weeks ago at the LA auto show, they are no where as bright as the GT's.

"VDO" is a brand name. Like "Autometer", or "Kleenex".

Hi folks,
Just came back from Hyundai Motor America this mornning to discuss tech issues on the Elantra and the '03 Tib. One of the issues brought up was the VDO guage conversion to GLS. When we figure it all out, I'll keep eveyone posted. I now have two VDO gauge clusters (manual/auto) to toy with and I'm planning to go over eveything with Hyundai's techs in the next two weeks... what realy sucks is,..I've been sporting a Europe spec GLS Elantra when my GLS is in shows and they come w/ VDO already....
