Hey! I have a 2002 GLS Sonata pkg. 5(GLS model plus moonroof). I just got it yesterday and I love it! Its silver with a black interior. I was loaned an LX in black for one night after I ordered mine. I love the 02! If you head on over to t-h-c.org, and go into the Sonata forum, you can see my postings!<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

I will post pics as soon as I find a site to host them on.

As for price. This is our 8th new car purchase so we are getting pretty decent at it now. We have the Sonata LX with everything on it you can get. The MSRP was 20,030.00 invoice was 18,480.00 we paid 17,400.00 We could have paid about 200 less if we wanted to drive down to Houston, but it was not worth the 200 bucks.

I had spent the day faxing all the fleet and sales managers, and then had them fax back to me their best quote on a buy order, with the cars VIN # stock # and their signature, so we all knew the car ws real. Then I just let 10 different dealers try to beat eachother. I also split the holdback with them.

It's a great car... people have been stopping us a lot asking what it is.

So far on the Edmunds site, we have paid the least for a Sonata LX.

Pics coming soon. :)<img src=icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_approve.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_cool.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_shy.gif border=0 align=middle>

I recommend this car myself.

2.7L will be in the Tiburon as well. Will be a lot like the Golf and Jetta for dualcelron to relate to. (refering to aftermarket I mean)

I have been discussing with a couple of North American companies, and the 2.7L V6 will have some parts released upon the release of the 2003 Tiburon V6. I'm not sure what Kore is doing though specifically.

Just got the new 2002 Sonata, Pearl White, 4 cyc. base model with automatic. On a scale of 1 to 10 I give it a "8" The things I dont like about it is the cup holders (bad design), the doors should lock when you first take off. When the engine is cold, second gear shifts hard and the engine idols kind of loud. Dont get me wrong, I realy like the car. It has plenty of room and features for the for your money. I paid $14k plus tax. If I had the extra money I would have got the V6

P.S.
Is it just me or does the 2002 Sonata looks like a Jaguar J typ ? <img src=icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>

matues your gonna love it regardless <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

The car is "louder" because of the fact that it is a 4-cylinder engine. To produce more power it has to rev harder. There was a guy though that was convinced that the V6 was louder then the 4-cylinder. He is a fire chief of the Toronto fire department and said he will be back to check the db's in the car. He was a really good guy!

Anyway your quote about the Sonata looking like the Jag S Type, you and tonnes of the media say the same. If you happen to park behind a Jag S Type stand behind the two. You will DEFINATELY see similarities.

There is also a strong pulling of young people to the car. My friend absolutely loves the car. He wanted a manual but it doesn't come with one here in Canada. With the automatic, he is going against his "always going to buy a manual" theory. I think he must have taken that car for a spin for the 4th time now.

I do agree that the '02 Sonata look a lot like the Jag-S, obviously there are a lot of differences, however for the $50k more I didn't spend on the Jag-S, Im not about to complain. If you want to go crazy the front almost looks like the Lexus GS400 Series. But hey - you have to give it to Hyundai, they gave the Sonata a very expensive look for +/- $18K

Smiley, Well you are right. I do love my new 2002 Sonata. I just came back from a 4 hour drive up the California cost. It handled great. No problems going around the tight curves and hilly roads. I had my 3 month old in the car and she never even woke up. My wife sat in the back with the baby, and she said it was a comfortable ride with lots of room. Driving the car was fun. I did find one otheir problem. The center armrest is too far back, it should be longer or should be moved foward. and i keep hearing clicking sounds from the fuse box after i lock the door's, climent controls ext. Over all I LOVE IT. I defiantly recomend this car.

Another great trip in my 2002 Sonata<img src=/images/forums/snitz/thumbup.gif width=25 height=18 border=0> The family and I just came back from a 350 mile trip from Yosemite (round trip). The car handled great around the corners, up hills and passing the slow cars. The automatic with the shiftronic helped alot. I got about 400 miles on a full tank of gas. It could have been better if i kept it under 65 mph.

P.S.
If I modefy my engine with a cold air intake would that void my Hyundai warrenty?

Just got a 2002 Sonata LX V6, and so far we love it. Has more power than I expected (just passed 600 miles, so haven't really revved it over 3000 yet) BTW, what is the run-in period on a new Hyundai? When can I floor it? Not thrilled about the dim-ish lights (had a BMW w/ H4 bulbs) Has anybody done an H7, H1 or H3 bulb change? What is the best improvement (other that the PIAA or HID upgrades) for around $15-$25 per bulb? Any danger of melting the projector housings w/ xenon bulbs (55w)?

The 2002 Sonata needs to go on a diet of steroids...the roadholding is exceptional, but where power and acceleration are concerned the car simply fails to perform! We had a trial on just the other day, myself driving the Sonata(2litre,H-matic stock)and a buddy of mine driving a Corona(1.6litre,automatic,stock) The result is as folows:eek:n starting,Sonata lost VERY badly, lost at least 1.3 seconds. In cornering, especially sections with sweeping hairpin,Sonata performed exceptionally, and was able to draw even with Corona at one time. When the road straightens,Corona(propably)used its lighter weight to advantage and won ahead of Sonata by 4.21 seconds.

Not too shabby,but then again...why in hell is a 2litre beaten by a 1.6litre!?

I test drove a v6 automatic the other day and was very impressed with its road manners and quietness. Couldn't quite figure out the manual shifting option though. Power seemed adequate though. Was most surprised by how quiet the car was.

And one more thing, the 2002 sonata looks drop dead gorgeous in white or silver.. I dont like the other colors..

Add the Ixiom body kit on that thing, then.....<img src=/images/forums/snitz/eek.gif width=15 height=15 border=0><img src=/images/forums/snitz/eek.gif width=15 height=15 border=0><img src=/images/forums/snitz/eek.gif width=15 height=15 border=0><img src=/images/forums/snitz/eek.gif width=15 height=15 border=0><img src=/images/forums/snitz/eek.gif width=15 height=15 border=0>
