How is it possible that the 2000 tiburon did 0-60 in 8.1 secs. with a 140 hp engine with lil torque and a 5 speedd (Car&Driver) and the new 2003's are rated at 8.2-10.5 secs. by Car&Driver? Are these figures reliable? What's goin' on??<img src=/images/forums/snitz/uhh.gif width=15 height=15 border=0>

I dont think they actually tested the car yet. They probably got that information from Hyundai Europe...where they had the V6 engine detuned for emission purposes down to 168HP. The North american version has the 181HP engine.

I think its cause the 2001 tib is like 500lbs lighter than the 2003. According to Yahoo! autos at least.

Can you be a little bit more clear? Are you talking about the I-4 2003 Tiburon or the V-6... I would not be suprised if the I-4 2003 Tiburon is slower than the 2000-2002's model... Actually I expected it... Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure the new 2003 Tiburon is suppose to be bigger and heavier than the previous ones. Now.. if you were talking about the V-6.... Then I would question Car&Driver. And Mach 5, I don't think you can use the 2003 Tiburons times they'll show on speedvision.. From an earlier post I read those Tiburons have 230 hp or something. I may be wrong though. And I'm pretty sure, Maserati05, a 140 hp engine producing 133 torque isn't a little... I mean the 180 hp Celica GT-S has only 130 I think. But then again I may be wrong. Also, if your wanting to get a 2003 Tiburon Maserati05, if your not in need of new car badly, I'd wait for the 2004. It'll be cheaper, and the kinks should be worked out. I mean other 2000 Tiburon owners have had the minor rattling noise problems (like the back window) and the seat belt problem. I haven't had any of those.

aiite i'm juss gonna try to answer all the questions... ok first of all, yes i am in bad need of a car and by the way, i saw a silver 2003 tib passin by my house today and was quite irritated.. don't ask why.. but anyway the tib tested in car&driver was a gtv6 wit a 6 speed tranny which should be the quickest version... and for the person that talked about the celice, the reason why it's 0-60 times are sub 7's is cuz of it's substantially low weight.. and it still does have 180 hp. However all the sources that i have referred to showed the times to be within 7.5-8.5 for the v6. Pretty disappointing... but wut can you do.. that's it for now... peace

I WOULDN'T SAY HOW FAST THE NEW GT IS YET BECAUSE NO ONE REALLY KNOW'S(IT TO NEW) BECAUSE OF THE OPTIONAL AUTO,5,OR 6 SPD I WOULD SAY IT IS ALL GUESS WORK FOR NOW, GIVE IT A FEW MONTH'S AND IM SURE ALL OF THE INFO EVERYBODY WANT'S WILL BE AVAILABLE.THERE ARE A FEW THING'S ILL LET YOU KNOW IF MORE POWER IS WHAT YOU WANT OUT OF YOUR GT LOOK FOR AFTERMARKET ENGINE PARTS FOR THE SANTA FE,OR OTHER MODEL V6 HYUNDAI'S ,IT IS THE SAME MOTOR,BUT THEY ARE DETUNED .SUCH AS AIR FILTERS,CAMS,AND SO ON,IN MY OPINION THE 6 SPD WOULD HAVE THE BEST 0-60 TIMES,BUT I WOULDN'T SAY THE AUTO OR 5 SPD IS FAR BEHIND. When the Tib first came out I was seeing/hearing 0-60 times that were all over the place...8.7, 7.9 etc.
all 5 spds. As time passed the times settled into something more consistant...8.1-8.4 usually. A pattern will emerge in the performance data, till then I just ignore anything that seems improbably fast or strangely slow.
Compounding the problem is the variety of engines and transmissions
available with the new Tib. My guess for the '03 Tib manual? 0-60 7.5 to
7.7 1/4 mile 15.5 to 15.7. It's just my GUESS, so if anybody doesn't like it, feel free to post your own...or just shut the fvck up. <img src=/images/forums/snitz/moon.gif width=15 height=15 border=0>

i thought the offical 0-60 for the v6 5-speed was 7.5 seconds and the same for 6-speed.... i'm 90% sure that's true... I can't see it being anymore then that my... elantra is 7.9 with mods... but there is tons of stuff to improve 0-60 scores like modz...

Well I can't find 0-60 times anywhere...Im about to take my damn tib to the racetrack and find out how fast it really is....All I know is it is MUCH MUCH MUCH faster than my old tib....so if my old one did 0-60 in 8.1 secs this one is probably in the low 7s<img src=/images/forums/snitz/smile.gif width=15 height=15 border=0>

I tested the 0-60 of a 2003 Tib yesterday.

It came in at 7.3 seconds for the V6/6-speed GT.

Sounds a lot closer than these weak
8+ second 0-60's....fine for a stock I-4 Tib or Elantra
but sad for the New V-6 Tib. How did you test it...or where?<img src=/images/forums/snitz/uhh.gif width=15 height=15 border=0>

We tested it with a stopwatch (<img src=/images/forums/snitz/smile.gif width=15 height=15 border=0>) on the outskirts of Vegas.

stupid question but a valid one:

was there a second person in the car timing you?

if yes then added weight
if no then the stopwatch was in your left hand and you couldn't hold the steering wheel as well or if its in your right hand, harder to switch gears <img src=/images/forums/snitz/smile.gif width=15 height=15 border=0>
