The day started with some errands, and actually got some directions to Hyundai HQ Canada from Mark D'Shark (as known on TeamSR.org and FxTreme.org) mark (here on hyundaiperformance.com).

I was told that its really just a 'parts' place but there is a lot more then a large warehouse. Its actually also got tonnes of offices for all the executives of Hyundai.

I can't remember the gentlemens name because the lady that had got a hold of was asking for three other gentlemens names, and when he introduced himself I believe it was Mike D. I totally forget your last name Mike I am so sorry!!! I was going to write it down once I got to the car but after getting to talking I already forgot and my friend was looking at the Sonata more then listening!!!

Mike also is an anonymous hyundaiperformance.com watcher so no doubt he is reading this laughing at me as he reads through it. Mike is also the head of Sales for Canada and was in Toronto for especially yesterday during the 2003 Tiburon production meeting that took place on Sunday Jan 6th to be exact.

A lot of the information that we talked about was already presented here on the site. More accurate release dates though I think were given. For Canada it is the end of Feburary, so as normal the Americans should probally be seeing it beginning to mid Feburary. The launch for Canada is SCHEDULED for the end of January ( I got this from the first individual I talked to, so Mike I think was trying to give themselves more time just in case ) but like I said no cars are on the lot till Feburary (according to Mike) get it?

This next part is more geared to the homeland crowd in Canada. The V6 in the 5-speed, automatic, 4-cylinder in 5-speed, automatic will be available immediately as the car has been tried and tested already in these trims in the Sonata and Elantra (respectively). As for the 6-speed V6. It has never been in Canada or the US for that matter. As of yet there are no 6-speed Tiburons in Canada from my understanding. They hope to see them in within this month from Korea but not in a great quantity. In other words, if you get a 6-speed it will be a GREAT prize for you. They will be available upon release date, but will be gobbled up right away. So don't except to be able to order any for a period of time. The rest of the info such as pricing etc has been covered already so please use the Search Tool.

Now for the car. It is the same one I saw in the pictures, and the one yoon and Mark had found from a ZX3 owner on one of the other forums.

I didn't bother taking pictures, cause that same one I took a look at was all salty and these pictures were much much nicer. The car itself was excellent. The only thing I didn't like was the front. I wish they had made it more like the 1st Gen but this one used much more lines instead of curves (is that what I m looking for?). The front where I had the most problems originally with the car, still is not very welcoming since the 'buldges' on the sides were above the rest of the hood not below the hood (like the '99-01 Sonata or Civic). The side and front of the car were excellent. Especially sitting on the 17" rims that it was on. HUGE room for 19's I M SERIOUS, 20's are starting to get questionable. Only other problem, was the no room in the back seat. For about a year I will still be hauling around 3 people so well hopefully the person in the back doesn't kill me after a while

The car itself was a 4-speed shiftronic and definately was the V6. Debadged though. According to Mike it was the American Tiburon since Canada as of yet does not have any. It is also the pre-production Tiburon so in other words I was not allowed to drive it at all. Just look at it. He said he would have BUT there were good reasons given.

Anyway thats all I remember from the trip, next time maybe a taperecorder would come in handy Cause I know I forgot about some of the minor things that maybe someone would find interesting.

The car overall opinion. Exactly how I thought it would be, but I was a bit disappointed with the front to be honest. It will take some growing into. Front lip or not, it was not that part, it was more from the grill to the hood (including headlights) that I had a bit of problems with. The rest of the car looks like 250-300hp not 181hp

Hope this shines some light on the 2003 Tiburon.

PS Mike if you are reading this remember how I told you that the dealership I goto is Alpine Hyundai in Kitchener? First off they are the best dealership in Ontario also they have a silver GSR 6-speed on order, can you PLEASE PLEASE make sure they get it. Thanx if your reading this!

going back to the front grill to the hood comment.. well...the car in that picture has the silver colored headlights which, in my opinion doesnt look good on the new tibby. I like the US market tibby better with the dark gray color. If you had the chance to see the dark gray ones, I think you would've changed your mind...

I think it looks pretty good, the front looks like a Celica to me though. But still not too shabby.

Actually that is from the US. The guy said that he has 5 from the US and that was one of them that his employees are driving around.

From what I saw, it was just a CD player in the black on in the picture. So underneath you could fit like CD's u know what I mean?

But yes the official partying and unveiling to the public in Canada will take place at the end of January and in Feburary we will start seeing them at the dealerships. I think with enough harassement from the dealerships they will be out sooner then the end of Feburary. When I was getting my oil change later on Monday I talked to the owner and he said him and a couple others were telling Hyundai Canada that they are dieing for the Tiburon. They actually have appointments for test drives for the Tiburon!!! My dealership was saying they have a literal list of people waiting.
