I bought my 2004 Hyundai Accent in July of this year. It came with an aftermarket head unit already installed, worked perfectly. In September, my car was broken into (driver side window smashed), and the stereo was ripped out of the dash, cup holders completely broken, clock, hazards, A/C and heater controls completely disconnected. The head unit was hard wired, no adapter, to the wiring harness.

I've spent the last month fixing the cup holders, clock, hazards and A/C and heater. Everything else works perfect now.

I bought the same model of head unit (brand new) that was in the car before. I matched up the wires, but it won't turn on. I checked all the fuses to make sure everything was okay, and no blown fuses. My brother tested the head unit by hooking it up to the battery and grounding it, and it works fine.

I'm wondering if in the (supposed) tweaker's fit of rage, while thoroughly ravaging my car, something else could have happened that I'm yet to be aware of.

I took it to an area sound specialist, and he told me he won't even look at it for less than $180. I live in a small town, work graveyard and don't have a whole lot of money to throw at someone who's going to overcharge me for something that might be an easy fix.

Any suggestions?

find out which wire is your power wire going to the stereo and make sure there is power to it (check it with a multimeter). That would be step one. My guess is when whomever stole the last stereo they probably pulled on the wires breaking them somewhere behind the dash.

The local guy wants $180 to look at it!? I'd tell him to go F himself.
