Hyundai america called me yesterday. They are about to make a recall on thw accents, the valve in the hydraulic cylinder for the clutch is too weak, causing the shifting problems. Im bringing my car back to the dealer tonight, hopefully this ends my headache.<img src=icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>

It would be the manual, considering the auto matic doesn't have a clutch. I'm gonna visit the dealer tomorrow.

S*it man, I've noticed that for some time, and I thought it had to do with shifting problem... let's say you were in fifth and wanted to downshift to third, and you double clutch, the gear sometimes was still in or it didn't enter properly. I'm going to get that work done ASAP....

my car most times doesn't wanna let me put it in third. sometimes, the shift just WON'T go back any further, unless i let the clutch pedal up off the floor some, then it falls right in. But most times, i go to put it in reverse, and the gears are still moving somewhat, even with the clutch to the floor. When i push the shifter down..it grinds them and they stop moving..so its like they're still gettin a tiny bit of power from the engine.. It sounds like and old truck! "GRRRaUNCH" of course old trucks didn't have sincros... so u think its my reverse sincro thats shot? doesn't seem lickly tho. But maybe its cus my clutch is getting old...it engages/disengages right as soon as u push it practically, at the top of the pedal travel. Or is it possible, even tho my clutch is gettin old, to just adjust it soe and get more life from it? i guess if u gotta tear **** apart to just adjust it u might as well replace it tho huh.

I think this is a similar problem in all the models. I have a X2 Excel 5 speed and it has the same problem you're having. I've heard from other Accent and Excel owners that have had this problem. My friends 97 accent had it too. I don't know if its just crappy clutches or what.

Hyundai doesnt put sycros on 1st and reverse. i went to the dealer about a prob with my 01 elantra GLS. the car doesn't like downshifting into 1st until its like stoped all the way, unless u just jam it in there. it wont grind usually to first. just a pain in the ass, cuss im in the chicago area when im like at 5 mph i cant get going good enough in 2nd and i cant stop to get it in first so u just have to jam. I was kinda disapointed. Also it likes to pop out of reverse sometimes. and i mean pop with a bang and its out of gear really fast. i noticed this if u try to accelerate in rev too fast. and or if the car is parked on a downsloping hill, i put it in rev and the pull the e-brake. the next morning i come out to my car with it siting in the middle of the parking lane, the shifter in netrual and the e-brake still up, and a note from college security saying, "please try to park IN the parking spaces" lol. just glad it didnt hit someones car. BTW got the e-brake adjusted works alot better now. <img src=icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>

yea.. i guess the fact that my clutch is getting worn adds to the problem. I've found, that if i take the shifter and ove it slowy into reverse, until i hear and feel a slight grind and resitance..i hold it there..and it stops resiting after like a second...then im good to go.

From what ive exprienced and heard over here the problem just pertain to the new accents 2000(july+ for us aussies).

Whats up guys, i got my car back. They couldn't put the AC in because they ordered the wrong one, retarts. They fixed the probelm, the car shifts better, the cluth engages better, but the first and second gear changes are still screwy. The recall is only on the LC accent, your screwed if you got an x3. I bought the HMC mudflaps and painted them to match the car, on a lighter note.
