2nd o2 harness / o2 simulator

Hi. I'm new to the forum and have a question. But first off - I recently purchased a 99' Accent off of a friend for cheap. The car is pretty nice and I know most of what has been done to it. It had a turbo setup that I helped install, but is now on another car of his.

Here is the thing....

He sold the car to me without any exhaust hooked up after the first cat. So, it only has the primary o2 sensor hooked up. He did include the piping for the exhaust, but in pieces.

I welded the main pipe on and it needs a new o2 sensor. But instead, I bought an o2 sensor "simulator", rather than buying a new one and having to worry about it.

Now, no matter what wire configuration (with the key on) - I cannot get power to the simulator. When it is hooked directly to a power source - ex: the battery, it will get power.

The wire colors in this harness are Blue/white stripe, black, two white wires. I was told by the previous owner that this is the 2nd o2 harness. It is located pretty much by the firewall and comes to the right side of the IM. (Passenger side)

I'm not sure if he did anything, or what is going on with it.

Any input would be appreciated.

Btw... Since the 2nd o2 is not hooked up, the car throws a CEL. Does this throw it into "safe mode"? If so, what exactly does the ECU change during this period?

Thanks,
-Derrick

for power, I can't recommend much more than having some fun with a tester.

as for the CEL, the car will use all other sensors (front O2, maf, etc...) to adjust the air/fuel ratio. It won't be in safe mode.
Okay, atleast it's not in safe mode then.

I don't really want it for power. I just want to do away with it lol.

I was wondering, just incase it were a common problem to lose power to that harness for some strange reason. I poked around with a multimeter and found the ground, but nothing really at +12v. I'll have to talk to the guy and see if he did anything.

*Edit*

I forgot to mention a probable important factor. The battery had been relocated to the trunk. The ground from the battery goes to the right side rear seatbelt mounting bolt.

i think black is the o2 signal, gray is ground, one of the whites is power

yeah that might an important factor :)

I moved it back to the engine bay and still...no dice. There were grounds that had been left out when he moved it to the trunk, so that couldn't hurt. But still, no power to the 2nd harness. He had an SAFC hooked in to the ECU, so is there some sort of wire from the ECU that leads to the harness? I'm just lost here.

Thanks for the info guys....keep it coming, please.

hmm other than fiddling/poking around and tracing the wires and grounds.... if that proves nothing.. maybe consider an alternate power source.

there isn't a fuse on that harness is there? :hmmm:
