I remember we were all discussing this a while back. Has anyone learned anything new? I'm a big fan of the 4G63 and know more about it than my own motor.

Plus...the fact that you can get a low mileage 4G63 with tranny cheaper than a Beta turbo kit ain't bad either.

The 4G63T engine is 100% "backwards" of our engine. The flywheel on the stock BETA faces to the driver's side, but the 4G63T engine faces to the passenger side. Engine mounts do not line up, transmission mounts don't either.

That also means the axles are different lengths, and the axles use a different spline count and are differently sized anyway so that's even more money. With the oddball spline counts, you also have to worry about the stock hubs fitting the new axles.

You also then have to worry about the computer, the sensors, the wiring loom, the fuel delivery system, the supporting equipment like fuel rail, manifolding, cooling requirements and misc BS like that.

It can be done, but the $200 you'd save because of a 'cheap' engine would be quickly offset by the $1500+ you'd spend trying to make it fit and the $100+ you'd spend making all the electrical work.

If you'd like a BETA engine with about 2000 miles on it for $300, call me. It needs a new rod bearing on #2, but otherwise it's a 2001 solid-lifter (no HLA's) from an Elantra GTS. It's direct from the dealer (same dealer I got mine from) so it's good stuff.

But it's still a slow-ass Hyundai motor.

J/P...Yeah I know the engine is backwards. I've had a 4G63 engine sitting literally inches in front of my engine bay...and I could tell it would be some work. I hadn't gotten down the the axles and **** though. But even looking at a couple grand for the install...I can get a 40K mile JDM 4G63 for under $2000. So when all was said and done it would be right about the same as turboing the Beta. Except the 4G63 is MADE for the boost...thus more reliable.

Decisions decisions...

Well now wait...

JDM 4G63 = $2000 with 40,000 miles on it, PLUS do you have any idea how badly the Japanese take care of their engines? They know the cars are going to be de-engined, so they beat the CRAP out of those engines. So you get a 40K beat-down engine for $2K, then you have to rebuild it to make up for all the abuse it just got. Then you have to fabricate all the parts to make it fit, plus fabricate axles, fabricate wiring looms and get an ECU.

When you're done, you have a 210HP 4G63 Tiburon that cost you $4500 -- it already has 40K miles on it and the parts you used are basically stock.

Yay, that's what I want to do

Dude, if you're going to spend $4K on a buildup, why not use an engine that was designed to fit it anyway? What is your fascination with Mitsu parts? Also, you do NOT want a 2nd gen block as it WILL crankwalk.

Every single 2nd gen DSM out here in ABQ that puts out any amount of power over stock has crankwalked. That's a full engine rebuild right there, the only "cure" is to replace the block with a 1st gen block and crank.

Do more research before you make an expensive mistake...

Yeah I know...I knew it would be more work than I could imagine. And I know about the 2G engines and the unfixable crankwalk. I woulda got a 1G either way. One point you left out though is that with the swap I'd have a 220hp Tiburon with a STOCK motor...not a motor tuned to hell waiting to find any little excuse to blow up. That was my main reasoning.

My car has just been pissing me off lately...and I've been working on alot of turbo Eclipses. The 4G63 is a work of art...you can't deny that. But it'll never be in my car.

Right now I'm planning to either bite the bullet and get the new Stage 1 turbo kit, or if all goes as planned I'll be driving a new EVO VII when they come out.
