my brother found a $500 excel hatchback and i'm really considering buying it, its in perfect condition and its blue. i'm only going to buy it if you can put a 2.0 beta motor into that. isn't hp gonna sell a drop in version of the swap with all the stuff needed? if this goes down, i'm gonna give my car to my dad and this will be my primary since i don't care about looks and all i care about is power and speed

just wanted to know if the swap is possible with the early excels and if the tib axles and stuff will go into that car aswell.

Well anything is possible with $$$$$

The 2.0 will dot be a straight drop. It will be alot easier to swap the 4g63t into that car.

If you want to stick with a beta motor then pick up a '96 or newer accent (I heard the '95 is alot tougher.)

Sorry but their is no swap kits being planned at this moment for the excels but if there is in the future I am sure it will be for the 4g63t.

The Tib/Elantra motor will not go into the <94 Excel, only the >'95 Accent, and maybe the '93-95 Scoupe. The engines in the older ones are Mitsubishi, and the tranny is on the right side of the car vs. the Elantra/Tib/Accent have the tranny on the left (in front of the driver). You could look at putting a Dodge Colt turbo motor or possibly a FWD Talon/Eclipse motor in it. I can't help you with exact models, but XLR8 could give you engine numbers, and then figure out which US cars those engines came in (he is in Australia).

yea, i'd say don't worry about a 2.0 tib engine. drop in a 4g63 and you'll have a boosted excel that won't be expeceted by anyone.

I used to say that until I saw Tony5050's car.
Lets you know anything can be done if you want to spend the money. But like I said before it would caost you alot and the 4g63t swap would be alot cheaper with alot mor hp.

BTW- In case you did nnot know who Tony5050 is he is the guy with the 4g63t in a Tiburon.

Sure its possible to swap that engine into your excel, but you have to add the price of a wiring harness from a turbo eclipse/talon/laser and the computer needs to be swapped as well. I wanted to do that to my excel, but it would be to much of a headache for my daily driver. (My other car's a z28)

i'm up for the challenge
and i got a friend whos done more than 30 4g63t swaps in his lifetime and hes very confident he could do it in the excel and hes gonna let me be their and help out so i could learn something about swapping.
it should cost a good amount of $ but it should be worth it at the end
now to get that excel.....

XLR8 has a older excel with a 4G34 I believe, I forget though. I talked with him alot about swaps for the excel and the best swap for a 4WD conversion is the eclipes/talon swap, for a turbo for the excel its cheaper to swap the eclipse in too. But a couple have lancer engines in excel in australia which make them really fly. But i haven't heard any stats on the lancer conversion.

There are are several problems with the 4G63 swap into an X1 and EFI swap in general.

1. To fit the Eclipse KM-210 5-speed transmission needs alot of work: convert to hydraullic clutch & cable linkages...and that's not all.

2. The 4G63 water pump pulley creates clearance problems. I had to defeat the water pump and install an aftermarket electric water pump.

3. The auto-electrics is a nightmare (especially when using a stock ECU) since the X1 does not have any facility for EFI. You must make up a section of the harness yourself and also modify the ignition switch.

4. The fuel tank & lines needs to be replaced with X2 items which has an intank EFI fuel pump and high pressure lines. The fuel pump itself must be upgraded for a 4G63T which is easy. An electrical harness must be made for this as well. Luckilly the X2 tank bolts straight in since the rear end on the X1 & X2s is identical.

You gotta remember Ive spent big $$$ on this conversion, of course Ive gone all out, but in no way is this sh!t cheap to do!

If you do the swap please take lots of pics so we can do a step by step for the site. It will be a big help to others wanting to do the swap.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little bit confused. You said looks aren't important but power and speed is, correct? Then why the f**k do you want an excel? I'm not saying I dont like them, because I do like them alot. But they aren't FAST. Even with a beta in it it wouldn't be fast. It might be quick but not fast. Fast is a 12 second quarter mile, not a 15 or 16. Once again I feel like crap for saying this stuff but it bothers me when youngins think Honda and Hyundais are fast. I can completely understand if you say it's pretty quick but you want a swap to be quicker. But to say fast? Have you ever ridden in a WS6 or Camaro SS? Or even something like a new Altima, which isn't FAST but still runs in the 14's. I'm done bitching. But I just want more people to think about things. Money's an issue for everyone, including me. I have a slow Accent I want to be respectably quick. I know it's not a ZO6 and it'll never be. I have more to say but I'm done for now.

Definitely, if you want cheap and fast, you're not gonna get it from a 4 banger. For something fast you should be looking at late 80's, early 90's american V8s. If you dont mind something butt fugly, well, consider a fox body 5.0 mustang. V8 motors respond really well to sc's and turbos...
