Hey, I've got a few questions on the Accent -Beta engine swap. I've tried to read through the posts already to avoid too much repeating. And I am referring to 2001 models.

1) I've heard it mentioned a few times that the Tiburon (Beta) engine, tranny and ECU can be had for $1000. I'm assuming this is a used price, and does anyone know where you would order these parts, new or used?

2) Now, this might sound ridiculous, but do you think it might be possible to have this work done at the Hyundai dealership? (the idea being to keep the warranty) I can't even believe I wrote that.

3) A high quote for instsallation was given at $1000. So would this really end up costing a total of $2000, or are there going to be additional things I would need to take care of?

Lets see here

#1 You can get the parts from Dan at KORE. Just click the link at top and email him.

#2 Wheather the dealer will do the swap or not is up to them. As far as warranty goes you will not get one.

#3 You should be able to get the labor done for under $1000 ($500-$750). You will also probably want to eventually get your front axles strengthed. I dunno for sure on that one. Also you will need to get a new exhaust cause the Beta will not breathe very well through the stock accent exhaust (2.5" will be ideal)

To get the basics you will be looking at a minimum of $2000. I would suggest to also have a lil set aside just incase you run into some troubles.

Thanks for the advice, but what exactly does strengthening my front axle involve?

Also, after this swap is done, what kind of car am I going to have? Is this thing going to be a viable daily driver or am I going to have to tow it to the track? The point of me getting an Accent was so I could buy a second impractical car also, what do you think?

Definately! Get your axles strengthened. It's a must! The best and cheapest way would be to buy the axles off of a Tiburon/Elantra. However, you will need to get them shortened a little cause if not, your wheels will stick out a little. Uhh....I'm thinking here Ohhh yeah; your car will be dependable, just as dependable as your stock everything. I see you are from Japan, I don't know the specs on your stuff, but in the USA, an Accent with the Tiburon 2.0 DOHC 16 valve should run a 15.0! Stock! Imagine what options that opens you up to! And I know in Japan you guys don't get totally screwed like we do in the US on the emissions thing so you might even be faster! Not trying to screw up KORE's business (because I think they are a respectable Hyundai aftermarket dealer) but if you live in Japan (like your name suggests), why don't you get a donor motor out of a wrecked car in Japan? Just make sure it was totalled from the rear end. Good Luck, hope I helped a little!

Oops I missed that you are in Japan due to the good English and talking in US dollars.

As far as getting axles strengthened or shortened you will have to have the shop do it. More than likely they will take it somewhere to get done.

about the daily driver thing...yes it will be a daily driven car. it will be a tiburon with an accent body, so no worries there. just like any other swap you are not doing any major engine mods so you won't have to worry about things blowing up unless the engine you get is bad.

I've been working in Japan for a couple years, and am going to be heading back to the states in August. My original plan with the Accent was to have a cheap and reliable daily driver, and then buy a second car for strictly impracticle purposes (MR2, Miata, S2000, etc). But after running around the internet for the last month, and discovering how easy and cheap it would be to make the impracticle car the Accent, I'm not sure what I'm going to do.

Korean cars are not popular in Japan, and most people don't even know that there is such a thing. Apparently Daewoo has recently had a car recognized for it's good design or something, but I don't know the details. Needless to say, I've never seen any Korean car here.

Thanks for the axle advice, now you mentioned that I would need to get the tiburon/elantra axle shortened. Now what I'm wondering is, if I leave the axle longer, could I put on wider tires? (better traction for launches?)

It's nice to hear that everyone is so confident on the reliability of the Beta Accent. I'm really considering it, and trying to figure out how much all this is going to cost.

Would Kore sell the axle? Anything that I need that I _couldn't_ get from Kore?

well if you get a new accent and do the engine swap, put new tires and rims, suspension, labor for all that, exhaust it should cost you under 16K right??? i think around there maybe cheaper now thats a 15 second car for 15-16K and it gets 20+ mpg and is very reliable and strong

Ok KORE will sell you the Tib axles but you will not want to leave them the same lengthe. Not shortening witt result in a car that handles sloppy.

If you are planning on a '95-'99 accent we will have an engine swap kit for you through this sites online store.(opening soon) It will include new mounts with polyurethane bushings, New axles, and all wireing needed for the ECU rewire.
