I have This Accent ( GLS ) 2000 1.5L SOHC AUTO Transmission, I hear this slight Pinging sound when I accelarate or when the AC motor turn on with accelaration, I'm using 90 Octane Petrol and has done 80K on the motor,
What could be the reason? Motor / Sensor gone?:confused:

im pretty sure pinging/detonation only has to do with turbo'd cars but i could be wrong.... my car makes a clingy sound at low rpm under half thorttle but i heard detonation occurs only at full load

Could be a bad knock sensor...if you can hook it up to an OBD II scanner and drive it to see if the computer is pulling timing like it should.

well i took out my rubber grommet- the rubber peice that seperates cabin from motor under the glove box.... anyways i wanna say its either suspension noise or engine mount noise cuz it doesnt sound like knocking........ listen buddy pinging....is the same as engine knock some im told so if u have no metal to metal noise coming from ur motor (u would know) dont worry about it..... and plus these cars can run on 87 octane.....trust me if u were pinging.... lol u would know.... but im curious about the creeks i here at low rpm load though..... i should have my mechinc check it out

I think I'm getin the same noise from my Accent too, I suspect it is comming from my instrument panel and it sounds like the Kog Wheels in instrument panel ( ie : RPM Meter and Speedo meter ) It just annoying I know

It doesn't happen on just turbo cars, go buy an old Cadillac and run 87 in there and see what happens. That clingy sound you're hearing at low RPMs likely is pinging, i've heard it happen on alot of cars when taking off.

I wouldn't worry about it too much personally.
