I have a 96' Accent with the Weapon*R coilover and KYB shocks, custom intake w/K&N air filter. Weight reduction (removed rear seats, replaced front seats w/ Corbeau Racing seats, removed sound dampening). I'm now currently awaiting my new 1.8 Delta motor to arrive. Anywho; All of my friends and I go up to the Kmart plaza every Saturday night to bullshit and race at the lights. My one friend asked me to race his 93' Civic hatchback. It has only the muffler, an SI tranny, and intake. It is a DX so it is not VTEC. Anyway he wanted to see which motor was better pretty much stock. I told him I was pretty sure he would win b/c he had a few things done, but he just wanted to see. He said my car weighs less. Which I think it does, I'm not even sure? So we take it to the light. I didn't get a very good start but neither did he so it was pretty even out of the hole. 2nd gear was pretty close, but I could tell he was kinda pulling on me! By the time we hit the 1/4l he was the winner by only about 1/2 car length! I lost, but I was surprised, we both have 1.5 SOHC motors but his has some stuff done to it! One thing might be that his car has well over 100,000 miles on it. I can't wait to get my new engine in so I can rip him a new asshole!

You mean 1.8ltr Beta engine

Just curious why you decided to go with the 1.8ltr instead of the 2.0?

And why are you getting the 1.8L, esp the delta, the 2.0L beta is cheap, has aftermarket suppport, and is much stronger?

Maybe one day... :)

Ummmmmmmmmmmmm.........the smallest Delta motor is a 2.5L , and all Delta's are V6s.

All 96+ Elantras come with either the 1.8L or 2.0L Beta.

I have a 5 speed and I know it's awkward for me to go with the 1.8 instead of the 2.0, but I won the engine on ebay for $499 with only 17k miles on it! I found that to be a pretty good deal. I'm not worried about aftermarket performance, I've found many parts for the 1.8 Beta! From what I was told, the 1.8 only has 10 HP less than the 2.0. I'm guess you said the 2.0 is stronger, but if any of the parts counterfit eachother I'm more than willing to do so. And 4 door GL; didn't you say that you can keep the Accent tranny/w using a stronger clutch (Scoupe, Elantra)? Not dissing what anyone else says, it's just that 4 door GL really really really seems to know what he's talking about. I think I read that he's done the beta accent swap before. Right?

There are some parts on the internals that DO NOT fit, but i'm not to sure what does and doesn't exactly.
The accent tranny will last about a week. Just get a beta tranny and shorten the driveshafts (or a evo V tranny and give your car awd ).

i dont know how much this has to do with anything...but a kid in my car club has an Civic HX, which is non-vtec, but has more hp and torque than a DX. but anyways...we did an EX tranny swap to shorten each gear, and it feels much quicker. So, my guess is that swapping an SI tranny to the DX motor will make it feel about as fast as an EX....just my 2 cents.

I believe that he still has the Accent's engine pretty much stock.

Just this past Friday, my friend and I went to Moroso here in Fla. He's got a 99 DX with I/H/E, advanced timing. Anyways, he laied down a trio of 16.1's which shoked the hell out of me and everybody there, now if i'm not mistaken the Accent run's somewhere in the 17's correct? I'm not knocking you or anything, but you'd be supprised what a half-decent driver can do even for an anemic DX. We're already in the process of swapping out his intake manifold for an EX mani, followed by a VTEC head and an EX tranny. Mid 15 second all-motor internaly stock SOHC, yikes!!

Yeah, the 1.5L Accent will run high 17s/low 18s stock, while the 1.6L Accent will run low 17s stock.
