Mechanical sets up when the valves open relative to the position of the pistons/crank. Advancing will open the valves sooner/retard they open later
Ignition is when the spark plug fire relative to the position of the piston.
Normally advancing the mechanical/valves will shift your power band a little towards the top. Generally netting a few extra hp at the cost of a few lbs of torque way down low. Really need to get it on a dyno to see where the most gain is from a cam sprocket.
