I just wanted to know what would be the advantages and disadvantages of owning a 6-speed over a 5-speed?

Can you fill me in with this?

Cause I figure $3,000 less I don't get an upgraded stereo, no TCS and 1 less gear.

If that extra gear is worth even $2,000 I would take the 6-speed GS-R (Canada side).

Please help me out and decide on which.

Personally I would like having that extra gear just cause then I can say I got a 6-speed. But I want to know why I would want that 6th gear.

THANX GUYS!!!

With the 6-speed you would get a little quicker acceleration due to the shorter gears, and you would get better gas mileage on the highway due to a lower O/D gear.

Plus, being able to say you have 6 gears is just kickass!

Smiley, trust me, don't make a mistake and not go for the "top of the line" because you will kick yourself! Well, I can say this. Did you notice that when you are on the highway, going over 120 KM/hour, the RPMs start getting up there? Imagine what an extra gear will do? Better gaz mileage + more speed. That's the way I see it, not sure if I'm right?

Your way better off getting the 6 speed rather than the 5 speed.... you will regret NOT getting one later on. Trust me, that ALWAYS happens.....

Had my first experience in a VW passat 6 speed last week. It's cool to switch to 6th gear at 180km/h (110mph). In other circumstances the passat didn't need it. Why would you want to run 1100rpm at 120km/h with a 4 cylinder car.... Maybe it's a bit different when you live in the US and have to drive 6 hours with the cruise control on just to get to the shoppingmall...

I thought the 6 speed was only available with the V6? Or am I totally out of date on this?

You are right Flux, the GS-R (canadian) is the only one available with 6 speed, and why would they wanna install 6 speed on a I$ with 140 hp -0- there was some talks about 6 speed when it came out in Korea, saying why 6 speed on only 175horse? (ps) but seems like everybody likes it now -_-

One big reason you'd want a 6-spd in a 4 cyl....keep the car higher in it's power band in each gear which = faster acceleration thanks to the shorter gears, and you get to have a decent o/d gear (6th) for highway cruising for good gas mileage.

i would *love* to have a 6-speed tranny on my tiburon, as the rpm's are a bit high as i cruise at 140-160 kph on the highway. plus i might be moving to germany.. i'd *need* that extra gear for the fast lane on the autobahn!
