I just posted this to sharkracing forum. Thought I would ask for your input as well. Here it goes.

What the hell is wrong with my car? I pulled out of a parking lot today and it told me to fvck off. I don't know what is wrong. It is idling all rough and stuff. I continued to drive it for a half mile to school. Once at 2000rpm, it smoothes out. It's kinda like when you start up the car in the morning and it idles all funny (at ~500 rpm) but as soon as you touch the gas pedal it's all good. It feels like some sort of intake or detenation problem. The other problem is that when this happened, CEL came on. FYI, I have a 1999 5-speed, with CAI (had it for a year now), and 1.8L cam (also had it for a year). And for those who do not know me, I'm the guy from FXtreme whose tranny just exploded and I had to fight with the dealer for almost two months before they would fix it. I just got it back two weeks ago and do not feel like having it towed 45 miles away again. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanx.

My 97 FX has done that ruff running thing. Turned out that when I washed my motor off some water leaked down into the sparkplug hole and there was some moisture on the top of the plug and in the boot. Check Engine light came on and ran like **** until about 2,000-2,500rpm.

Which brings me to another thing. Just the other day I was driving home and my check engine light comes on. So I drive my car home and it's running fine like it always does. I get in the next day, start it up and it's running fine again. I drove it around and kicked it down a couple of times runs like a charm.

So what the hell is wrong. Could it just be an error or a dirty sensor. Please help

I was also thinking it may have been a filter problem, so I removed the filter just before the MAFS. That's when I realized there was this God-awful wheezing coming through the tube (from TB?). Spark problem is my main assumption, but I didn't get out of class 'til 930p and I didn't feel like fvcking with it (being that it was dark, I have no flashlight, its about 15 degrees outside, and I didn't have my jacket - just like any other dumbass wouldn't). I don't understand the wheezing however. Oh well, being the luck I have had thusfar with dealers, that is going to be my last resort. It really does feel like some kind of detenation promblem - like one of the pistons is simply being drug around like a little bitch . I don't know, I get outta class tomorrow at 1130a. I'll check it out and let yas know what's up. 'til then...

Wheezing sound coming from the TB? Check the hoses around the TB area...you may have a cracked hose, and that WILL cause it to idle funny.
My car would not idle at all, but would run fine while on the gas back in August of last year...the idle servo (what the dealership called it) had gone bad (it's the bosch cylinder right behind the intake manifold)...it was making a clicking sound when it went. That may be the culprit too...it's covered up to 60,000 miles though, so if you're over, it's going to cost you on that one.

Same thing happened to my 98 Tib. I was mad as hell because I couldn't figure out what the problem was. I took it to the dealership and they said one of the cylinders was misfiring, which means a spark plug was bad. Have your spark plugs checked out and see if that fixes the problem.

I just checked the spark plugs. They are all working fine. I really do not like the wheezing coming from TB/IM. I took off the whole CAI and found something strange. Apparently when the dealer had the car, they must have put some grease on the rubber bend between the MAFS and the TB. Some of the grease has definitely been sucked into the TB. I don't know how much. You can see a tiny little stream leading from the beginning of the TB into the butterfly. Here's the most startling discovery I have made: It looks like I may have some water in my oil. Inside the head, there is a layer of "gue" when looking in the oil filler cap. It's a yellowish-brown kinda "gooey" substance - maybe not quite as viscous as vaseline, but the same texture. Also, when checking to see how much oil I have, it is a bit discolored - sort of a dark tan, yet somewhat cloudy. Oh, and it will no longer idle. It runs if you give it gas, but it really, really wants to bog out as soon as you release the accelerator.

So now the questions. Blown Head gasket? Some other leaky gasket? What about the wheezing Intake? Clogged injectors? What's up with my oil? and last but not least... What the fvck!?!

If anyone has any ideas or has seen this before, let me know. However, I think it is time to have my car toed 40 miles back to the dealer. Does anyone know if "Free Roadside Assistance" will toe my car 40 miles, being that the dealer 5 minutes away will never see my business again.

where do you live? any jiffy lubes near you? if so go in and ask to have your engine flushed and for a fuel system cleaning along with an oil change this will cure most of your problems. the gooey substance you are talking about is normal on alot of cars just a little moisture in the engine, not something you want but still kinda normal. the fule system cleaning cleans you t/b , injectors and i/m, you might also want to replace your pcv valve. how many miles do you have by the way? new filters will definately help. prices: fuel system $45, engine flush $50, fuel filter $40, pcv $6, plus oil change about $30. it gets quite expensive put proper mait. always does. good luck let me know how it goes

So what you're saying is to go ahead and drive it. There are about, oh I don't know, 3927 Jiffy Lubes near me so I will try that. The only thing is, like I said, it doesn't even idle now, so does that mean it is going to get even worse as I try to take it to Jiffy Lube? Oh well, it is definitely worth a shot.

Thanks a lot everyone, I'll keep you guys posted.

Well, I just dropped it off at the dealer. The service techs weren't home - it was 845p for crying-out-loud. However, something amazing happened. As my friend and I were leaving the parking lot, we noticed a TibGT sitting there. As I looked at the car, drooling, a sales rep snuck up behind me and says, "You wanna drive it don't ya." I say "Nope. But can I have the keys so I can look inside of it?" As soon as I sat in those better-than-amazing leather seats, I knew I had to have it. We took for a test. It was fvcking incredible. It shifted so smooth. I thought I was driving a Porsche. It accelerates like a motherfunker. Chillin' in 5th on the interstate, I could fly around a car like he wasn't moving. And the power - 4000 and up was phenomenal. I want that car... bad! I am waiting to get my fixed, I want to see what they will give me, and I may be getting it this week or next. That would be SO awesome.

Man, that is sooooo tempting. Oh well. ooooops!

If you are covered under waranty ask to have the mas replaced, if it is out of wack it will cause erratic idle and a cel, by the way the cel just means your O2 sensor is picking up a bad air/fuel reading, so you are probally running lean/rich. Check the exhaust and if it is darker you are running too rich.

If i have another civic with a 2' spoiler and fart can come up and rev on me i am gonna laugh so hard that his exhaust will quit rattling.
