it really depends on your knowledge of HVAC. If it's limited I wouldn't try it. one mistake can mean long hours and lots of cash trying to trace down the problem.

Yes and no. If you were to install it and screw something up in the process. A/C parts are not cheap. or if you were unable to find the problem and have to take it to a shop, it would cost you a butt load of money for their labor in addition to parts. Pretty much as a rule of thumb for about any shop anything in A/C repair is about $1000.
