ARGGHhh ! Pulling my hair out over WHEELS !!

1083 Views 11 Replies 6 Participants Last post by Greenchaos
Ok i bought some motegi MR12 for my 98 Tiburon. Here are the specs of the wheels

17x7.5 +40mm 25.5lbs
8H (4-100 / 4-4.5 or 4.25)

The tire guy said i would need some spacers but everything would be fine.

Now i went to Team SR Forums and Random said one day the stress of the tire weighting down on my lugs would make them POP OFF !because of the Hubcentric desgin of Hyundais.

Now does anyone know the correct bolt pattern i need to look for so i dont have to buy spacers or Any wheels reconmmedations? im a student and even tho i want my car to look tight i dont want to screw it up....

Thanks everyone

I replied to your thread on www.teamsr.org, but for the record...unless you get hubcentric wheel spacers, yes, wheel spacers are a BAD IDEA.

The 40 offset on a 7.5 wheel is going to cause problems if you drop the car and go with wider than a 205 tire. You will probably still rub with some of the more sever drops, but might be okay with the eibach 1.2 drop.

u don't need a spacer...

+42 stock...
+40 is very doable!! don't get any spacers... those things just cuase trouble most of the time anyway.

no no don't feel bad, or like a fool. I don't think u would need the spacers buddy. Cuz aren't the Montegi wheels already hubcentric? I imagine it sux worrying like this. But I think that they are. Just bolt 'em on there!! AM I RIGHT GUYS???

i hope so..because i could have bought a crap load of Mods instead of these wheels :(

but i did go to motegi's main site and they talked about hubcentric-ness (is that a word?LOL) so i sent them a email about my wheel...i guess i just wait to see what happens
The tiburon has a 67.06 (67.1) mm hub. if the wheels you bought have the same hub diameter, you will not need a Hub adapter.

if the wheels do NOT have the proper hub diameter, you will need a hub adapter. They are available from Gorilla automotive through www.tires.com

Hub SPACERS are something completely different. They move the wheels farther out.

Stock wheels are 6" and +42 offset. The wheels you bought are 7" wide and a 40 offset. this means you are going to end up moving the wheels about half an inch IN towards the suspension.

Ok got my email from Motegi and they said "NONE" of the wheels will fit on the Tiburon because of the none of there wheels are made with a brake pad relief???

what does that mean?
now im really confused...i could have sworn ive seen motegi's on other Tiburons

But now i thinking about giving my wheels back to my friend and getting the Nippon Racing Mongoose Or some 5Zigen Fireball's..anyone know anything about these wheels before i buy them they both have a +42 Offset & 4x114 8 Holes

Good, bad? or am i still not getting it

Go over to fxtreme and look for "ZEEK" He has the MR12's on his tib... Ask him what he did. Good luck!

NOS!...I Need NOS!....And I Need It By Tonight...
Oh well im getting rid of my Motegi's and getting either some Konings or some Enkei's from what i was told from Discount tire comp they will bolt on with no problems...

Wish me luck

thanks for all your help guys
