Hey all,

I have a 2001 GT and my trans shifts in such weird places. It Jerks when it shifts between second and third, and also between third and fourth. I don't understand why it would do this. I have my foot pressed on the gas, constantly.. but not hard... and it jerks! I don't know why! Should I bring it back to the dealer? I think its either the torque converter or the trans.

is it jerking of harsh shifting? is it getting confused ( yes the cloudy logic chip sucks on it ) between gears and some times shifts up, then down and then stays in the same gear, this is normal due to the chip. If it slips ( not engaging in gear ) or any other stupid auto funkyness take it to the dealer. Just make sure it has fluid ( not over filled either ) and will brake torque to 2200 rpm and it is in spec.

It has kinda sloppy shifting. I can be in 3rd gear and it will shif to second, third, then fourth. It is so weird!

the tranny is some kinda wannabe performance driver, it WILL downshift if you punch hit, and then it tries to **** back and seems like its going haywire.... just make sure you turn off the overdrive before you punch it................... it you think its a problem, bring it in to the dealer... remember , its FREE

The Elantra's "2-3 Flare" is well documented. Some of the members @ the Edmunds site have had their ECU's reprogrammed at their dealers. Some dealers say they have new programming to fix the problem, while others say they've never heard of a problem. If your dealer claims ignorance, try another dealer. I did bring it to the dealer.. and they said there was some type of leak. Along with that, they had to re-adjust my shock mounts.. I don't know how they are related! The car rides the same though.. no change with the shifting! <img src=/images/forums/snitz/mad.gif width=16 height=16 border=0>

The dealer told you the leak as a blow off. It would be a good reason why you are shifting bad but if it isn't the reason, it got you out the door. I would recommend some research and then go to another dealer with the research. Explain your problem and your concern. They should listen and if they won't, a letter to Edmunds should get you what you want.<img src=/images/forums/snitz/guns.gif width=33 height=16 border=0>

hmmmmmmmm 2-3 flare huh??? id say im a veteran of that bullshit

my original tranny slipped n flared 2-3 shift and the new '01 tranny in my car seems to have a weak spot at 2-3... mebe i should bring it in and ask about this

I am going to the dealership this weekend because it is happening more and more as I drive. It is also getting progressivly worse! <img src=/images/forums/snitz/angry.gif width=15 height=15 border=0> This really is starting to piss me off how they don't even care. I will fill you guys in when I get back.
