With people screwing me around with getting manual parts for my swap, I emailed levelten to get prices for their automatic upgrade for the tranny ina 2000 hyundai tiburon.

Their response...

We have everything for that transmission that you have in that vehicle. We have a pts transmission system that will be able to handle up-to three times factory hp and give you more hp and torque to the wheels. It will also give you throttle oriented shifts rather than the factory lazy sluggish shifts.
We also have a pts torque converter upgrade that will get rid of all the lag and the hesitation off the start and take off anywhere from 1/2-1 second off et times.
pts transmission system $3264.
pts torque converter upgrade $498.

My god $4k !! I called them up, they said that all the price with labor and parts, they also stated that only they can do the valve body job, they cannot sell the parts envolved, further more, you have to do that before they will warranty the tranny for 600whp.

The torque converter you can buy as just a part. Good luck boys and girl racers :)

I got my self a manual tranny from a 2001 with 11k miles and all the goodies needed for a swap for $625 shipped :) woohoo

no, they dont have any more, dont ask me please :(

The level 10 upgrades are costly but for those who want to stay automatic it is a great upgrade. You will be getting the acceleration of a manual and still keep the auto tranny. For those who do not want a manual and still want to turbo, I highly recomend looking into these upgrades.

Hey! I would say if ya got the cash ! go for it! its like, they give ya a transmission that would be super super hard to wreck. I would consider all that work to be along the lines of race worth!

Also, even if ya give the tib 300whp, the tranny only taking care of HALF its potential, most stock trannys are probably using 80% to 90% its potential.

If I had $4k I would do that, but I dont.

I will be selling my automatic once it is out, if anyone needs one ;)

valve body ya gotta save for, but anyone keeping their Auto, go with the torque converter uprade soon as hp.com has it in stock and get to a Ammco or some other tranny place, cause the dealer will ask for your first born to install it :)

The only part that sucks is that they don't sell the other parts seperatly. No most stock auto trannies are not at 80 or 90 % . Our tranny is derived from the Mitsu talon tranny and is good to 320 hp with minor work, torque converter, pump, valve, a good shift kit and tlc . The auto looses lots of power thru the converter but once reclaimed it is easier to drag race with since no missing shifts. Too bad it wasn't a 5 speed auto for more low end.

Yeah, about 10 more than stock. Hyundai trannies suck. If I could afford it, I'd get a crash-box from a rally car.

Okay...
If I get the torque converter from level 10,
will I be good to go with the turbo, or no? <img src=/images/forums/snitz/uhh.gif width=15 height=15 border=0>
I do not have anywhere near the cash for
a new tranny as well as the turbo, especially
since I was planning on ordering THIS WEEKEND!

level 10 would give you plenty of UMPHH for turbo. They warranty it to as much boost as you will probably want outta the turbo with the kit, and it makes it so you don't have the auto lag with more aggressive shift points...

I've put 170 whp thru my tranny and it's still fine, so I see this tranny holding up well into the 200+ hp area, just don't do neutral drops. As for the real problem with the tranny, the stock torque converter SUCKS, yes it really does.
