Doc, I got a question for you. Remembered while I was trying to sleep last night.

Almost every morning when I wake up (and at night while I'm sleeping) my back aches. I'm not sure if it's my bed being to soft/hard or if the pillows I'm using are too many/not enough or too hard.

I generally use one pillow made out of artifical down. It's very soft and very comfortable, but I don't know if that has to do with it.

Any ideas?

4doorGL and SilkySpinz(that's a cool name),

A good nights rest is very important as you all know. We spend almost 1/3 of our lives in bed, yet most buy an inexpensive mattress. I prefer a harder mattress with a softer pillow top, they support the body better.

How old is your mattress?

Do you rotate it by turning the tip right corner so it is now the bottom left corner?(similar to tire rotation: front goes to back)every month and then flip it over once in a while and do the same on the other side?

Mattresses last anywhere from 4-10 years depending on the quality and how you take care of it, some last less and some more.

As far as the pillow, a single pillow should be slept on. If your pillow is over 1-2 years old you may want to replace it, especially if it's really showing signs of wear by flattening out.

Good Mattress's:
-Spring Wall (I have one now! The best)
-King Cole
-Sealy posturepedic (had one it was good)
-Simmons beauty rest (had one and it was ok)
price range $550-1,200.
there are other mattress's out there, those are the ones I'm more familiar with.

Pillows:
those made with a depression for your head, to cradle the spine while lying on your back or on your side!
Price range $25-60.

So there is a possibility your mattress could be causing you the discomfort. There are also other reasons for this as well! For instance achy back that occurs in the morning and goes away with movement generally means arthritis, you're too young for that. If you've had any sport injuries or falls or any other traumas to your low back your seeing the effects of that.

Thank you! (for the advice and for liking my nickname)

I don't like having pillows, as a matter of fact, I feel more rested if there are no pillows.

Plus, my matress sucks and I am planning on buying myself a new bedroom set. I have no idea what type of matress to get, if that is what's affecting my back.

Well saw a show while back. If you have a small build soft bed, big build hard bed. Basically get one matches your weight. AS for the pillows damn 1-2 years. yuck. Apparently by that time the pillow now consists of 80% skin and dust mites. And get the best you can afford. I paid about 1200 just for the mattress on a slat base bed 400.
What the hell does this have to do with cars . And those tri pillows are great. There great for reading car mags at night.

That's true Machine, but I try not to gross people out. Sounds like you might have been watching an infomercial as well. Yes, this forum isn't about cars, but for the drivers.

I have the softess bed in the world. Everyone that lays on it loves it and wants it, but I sink into it, and it just kills my back... so I am thinking a firmer bed is what I need... anything i can do without forking over a grand???? (("mommy and dady!"))

If you've flipped the mattress over and rotated it on a monthly basis then not to much can be done with your old mattress. Check to see how old the mattress is and if it is still under warranty (if it had one).
You don't need to spend a grand to get a good mattress (remember that 1,200 dollars was in australian currency, about half in US dollars). Shop around, find what firmness you like, wait for a sale.
